Quick question, my son isn't comfortable with a 12 ga just yet but he loves the 410. Question is there a certain type of ammo they sell that would work for say a 10-15 yard shot on a turkey? All I've beeen able to find is bird shot and slugs. Should we even try to take a turkey with a 410? Those are the only two shotguns I own.

Pattern your shells and see. At that range you should easily kill one with high brass shells. It's a trick to get them that close but a strutting decoy could do the trick.

If you load your own, have you investigated Tungsten Super Shot (TSS)?
If you stay with commercially available loads, think small shot for a dense pattern. At that range, 7's will get the job done. Aim for the base of the neck.

Killed several with a 410 and #4's. Make sure and pattern it. My pattern really loosened up after 40 yards so I keep shots under 30.

I haven't got the stuff to reload .410 in TSS yet, but I will after I kill several with my 28ga. I've seen patterns from a .410 with TSS that will kill to 40 yards all day long. I'd call up William at SumToy and ask him about shell/choke combos with a .410.
Have you tried a youth model 20ga with him yet? I have one set up I bet he could shoot if you are local and want to let him try it.

The biggest turkey I've been involved with taking was shot by my 7yr old son with a .410 and #6's at about 20yds. Pattern and if the gun is throwing good patterns, get 'er done.

I've shot several with 3 inch #5 Remington game loads. My gun is really deadly out to 30 yrds. It's just fun to grab the little gun sometimes!

Thanks everyone, just didn't want to injure a bird. Wanted to make sure it would work.
