be where they wanna be. Wood ducks don't usually decoy well.

If you're just looking for a brand, stores seem to be offloading FA brand decoys pretty cheap if you can find em.

I don't think they hurt, but I don't know if they particularly help. It seems like they know where they're going before they take off. The only time I've seen them "decoy" is with a mojo at first light, and that's just to take a closer look. They hardly ever land. I've done just as well with decoys as without. The only way to hunt them is scout out where they consistently fly to. Usually it's the smallest bit of open water they can land in with quick access to cover. The best places will have a wood line nearby on the bank.

I hunt a creek that is a flyway when they leave the roost. They land in the same stretch of the creek. I have some gwt decoys and a couple mojo doves, but would think having a few wd decoys would help.

The FA always looked good to me, especially for $35. I've shot enough over my pro grades in east Texas to justify the expense, but if you're where they want to be I don't think it really matters.

Or just go with jseago. He guarantees banded birds on every hunt. Sometimes never shoots his gun!

There is a private creek that feeds into the Brazos that I hunt. The wood ducks roost close to the river and in the mornings follow the creek going to feed. sometimes very low following every curve of the creek. Sometimes above the tree tops. Wood duck decoys will often stop them for me. Sometimes crashing in with the decoys, sometimes stopping short on the creek and slowly swimming in. Light coaxing with a wood duck call has helped on the swimmers. They are very vocal and sociable birds on my creek. But this is a special circumstance. These are birds looking for a feeding area that often changes depending on where the acorns, native pecans, or mexican plums are floating and accumulating or actively falling into the water. But typical North Texas Lake hunting, I rarely see them pay much attention to wood duck decoys. My wood duck decoys are a real mix of brands and sizes and condition. I have never noticed one brand or size make any difference on how they react to them.

Gave in and ordered the FA ones.
