I am looking for a good bullett/load for my 25-06. Not only for accuracy but field performance is key. I talked to Chad with Dallas Reloads for a while a few days back and he had some great suggestions but before I have him load up a bunch for me, I wanted some opinions from personal experience. He was suggesting the Berger VLD I just don't have any experience with them. Thanks in advance

You didn't say what weight bullets but best consistently accurate loads for hunting I have found across several 25-06 rifles has been IMR4350 with 100gr Speer BTSP or similar Sierra. Have not tried the Berger so it maybe great too.

I run 110gr Accubonds and 4831 with exceptional results. I'm in the process of working a load up with 115gr Bergers and hybrid 100v.

I have been shooting 117gr Hornady with a few different loads but haven't found one that I'm in love with yet.

The part that says "field performance is key"

If field performance was key a vld wouldn't be in my pool of options.

I ran the vld's around 3100 ft/s in my 25-06, I run them at 3205 in my 257wby.

Good bullet, I had issues at upper 3300's with it being a little explosive in my wby. But non sense they where slowed down.

Gunwerks sells loaded 25-06 ammo in 115vld but chad will be a lot cheaper

I run 115gr Nosler BTs and 117gr Sierra GKs in my 25-06 in front of IMR4350. They have both been exceptional in performance and accuracy.

I shoot the 130gr VLD Hunting in my 6.5 Creedmoor. They are crazy accurate, but I am not all-out Berger, yet. I shoot everything IN the shoulder half way up the body, and usually get an instant drop or at least immediate feedback that the animal is not feeling well.

Off of the top of my head, my Berger experience has been this: 1) Big mule deer buck (97 yards) - acted like he wasn't hit, trotted forward 5 yards, stood 5-10 seconds then fell over dead. No exit, no blood. 2) Two 175-200lb sows (115 yards) - first dropped dead, no exit, no blood. Second, two small spots of blood at site of shot, then no more blood. Never found her. I was certain of the shot, and certain she died - we saw both sows' piglets several times after that with no mamas (very distinctive coloration on all)... 3) 200lb boar (105 yards) - purposely shot him back in the lungs so he wouldn't drop under the feeder. Ran 40-50 yards then died. No exit, no blood trail. I shot some pigs last year with Bergers, but I cannot for the life of me remember the details.

I am not saying that I don't like the Bergers... They are too accurate not to like. But if you are one who likes exits and heavy blood trails, they are not the bullet for you.

I shoot 100 grain partitions and Barnes x bullet.
I would not be scared to use them on mule deer. Excellent terminal performance.

Another vote for the 110gr Accubonds over 4831SC. I load them for my wife's .25-06, excellent accuracy and
performance on deer-sized game and pigs. Very predictable expansion and weight retention.

Nosler has them in the redbox line. Good set up. Used them on a pronghorn (entered chest existed mid back) Pretty hot load at 3300

Pretty much sums it up. Every accurate but no passtrus. I did find jacket(257wby) poking through off side shoulder of my buck this year but it was a poke and surprisingly after a high shoulder shot

+1 on the 110 Accubonds. Deadly accurate, to the point of being 'target' accurate. I have always got an exit wound. Haven't lost a game animal yet that I shot with them.

Yep, I've been shooting the 120gr HPBT SGK over 4350 for a long time. Lots of deer have fallen to that load.

That combination has been very accurate in several 25/06s for me, also.

Yup, Berger VLDs get my money! Great hunting bullet and accuracy too.

My vote goes with the IMR4350 and Sierra GK BTSP really hard combo to beat on whitetails. The VLD is a great bullet but hard to see the price difference for shooting texas whitetails. Also killed a few deer with the 115 nosler BT in front of reloader 22 but hard to beat sierra bullets for performance, accuracy and price.

I'm loading 115-grain Nosler Partitions over 51.6 grains of IMR 4831 for an average velocity of 3040 out of my Marlin X7. I have only shot two whitetails with it so far. The first was a doe that ran about 20 yards before falling. The second was a buck this year, hit him high on the shoulder and he dropped right there. So I guess I can say that bullet has been 100% effective for me. :-)

110 grain accubonds, 100 grain Barnes ttsx or partitions is what I would be going after. Mine loves SGK. I've never had any problems with them but they don't always exit.
