I've been debating on getting an ATN day and night scope. Anybody have any experience with them?

Hi Precision could I bother you to please expound as much as you care to on this one please?

I think what I'd love to hear is what your max useable distance is with the stock IR ilum? Then if you are adding in a separate IR light what that gets you out to?

I'm also a bit confused on the smart range finder. Can I opt for a standard zero and just with that? I'm a big fan of max point blank range on the 308, but I'm open to using technology if it's better! Just not real sure how all that ranging/zeriong works. Thanks in adavance.

Digital night vision is ok, but is nothing like the good stuff. My x sight is range is dependent on conditions, moon, weather, illuminator, etc. It takes some time to learn how to scan and use it. If you are not careful it can eat batteries.

Stock illuminator is good for 75-100 yards depending on conditions.
You can set the zero wherever you want it, just like a conventional scope, only difference is there are no turrets, just buttons to move the reticle where you want it in relation to bullet impact. If you want to set it 2" high at 100, you can.

In my experience, most of the ATN stuff is pretty good.

Being the terminal tinkerer, I was looking at the Xsight as a replacement for my Photon.
The XSight however has been a disaster.
My first one worked for two days, never made it to the field and was sent back.

I got the replacement about a week later and it did work.
Not well but it did work.
After 2-3 firmware changes, I sent it back.

A couple of friends had the same luck and both of them are using Photons now.
With an Evolva T20 illuminator added on, they can "see" further than I want to shoot at night.

I have seen exactly one of the XSight IIs that works.
It's a little better day sight than the Photon but the Photon blows it away at night.

ALL thermal scopes are digital also, just different/better electronics.

Cheers,

All of the problems are with the first gen x sight. The x sight II is good to go! None of the issues from the gen I units exist in the gen II. So if buying, go with the gen II model
