It was insane!

I agree, the ones I see out west are twice that size.

I agree, the ones in wichita falls are about 40 to 50% bigger compared to the ones in the panhandle
You have 15 different crane species.

Small, Medium , Large, Stout and Extra Stout

Those are just juvenile birds. It has nothing to do with the location.

They may actually eat better, more tender.

Never hunted cranes. Is it even fun. When I picture it, I picture the birds I have out in the pastor after a fresh cut of hay. Idk, maybe I'm missing out. I'm in the east texas area so I only duck hunt around here.

Yes, its a lot of fun. Especially when you hunt the roost.
I try to have at least 1 yearly crane hunt.
The best days are usually right after duck season when cranes are still open.

I'll have to try it out sometimes. I have a buddy who hunts them atleast once a year in the panhandle area. I might need to hitch a ride with him next season.

Hunting them coming back to water is fun. Jumping them off a roost 15 minutes before LST and killing them as they come back in the dark is not that fun.

I agree but with only 4 hunters and thousands of cranes we took turns and were selective on our shots
The main roost with 100,000 cranes was 1 mile away
When dark we focused on pintails, geese, teal and green trying to land

Most epic hunt in the panhandle we have been on

Waiting in a layout while those big Pteradactyl looking things come in to decoys fully committed and cupped up is pretty dang awesome.
