I have shot all manner of hogs, big ones, little ones and medium ones. And i have come to the conclusion they are all delicious, even the big boars. I hear people all the time saying they are nasty and stink and this and that. Well let me tell you, elk stink too! And they are debateably the best eating wild game out there. So my message to anyone who says wild pig isnt good table fair, no you're just lazy and want an excuse to shoot pigs and leave them laying.

If I can find someone to give the hog to I'll gut it and give it to them if not I leave them lay. This goes for any hog not just the boars. I've given away 7 in the last month but I have no problem leaving them lay as well.

When they tear up acres and acres of my ranch, I just want them dead. I have a list of folks on standby that will take them and eat them. The main problem I have is I pretty much only hunt at night and it's hard to get folks to come by at midnight and pick up a hog. So, sometimes even with the best laid plans, the buzzards eat well also.

It is a little early in the day for a self righteous "If you don't hunt for the reasons I hunt then you are doing it wrong" and trying to shame others thread isn't it? The main problem I have is I pretty much only hunt at night and it's hard to get folks to come by at midnight and pick up a hog. Isn't that the truth? Or they wanted, it gutted, butchered, bagged, and it would be nice if you just left everything in a cooler of ice on their porch so that they could deal with it in the morning.

Luckily, the folks I help out usually offer up back strap or jerky in trade after the fact and genuinely appreciate the groceries. If they don't want to come get it and clean it themselves, they aren't hungry enough or just don't care and the buzzards thank them.

Any of you who like eating em, let me know, I'll send you all you can handle. In my experience they aren't real good tasting and they tear up our ranch. The one thing I love about them is, they're fantastic targets to make sure my rifles are sighted in on the money 😂.

I was very surprised I've always heard they weren't good and on a recent deer hunting trip a couple of the guys shot pigs and we quartered one and put them on the smoker and I was amazed I can honestly say in my opinion it's better than farm raised less fat and great eating!

I agree with the original poster, all sizes of hogs are tasty. I've shot about 15 hogs since buying our property about 2 years ago and I've quartered and eaten or frozen all of meat. Smoked hams, jerky from BS, ground for breakfast sausage, burgers, taco meat, and chili, it's all awesome and my family agrees. Let's face it, a lot of people don't take the time to learn how to cook it right. Other than the BS, It's very tough if you don't cook it long enough. The hogs have been the best part of enjoying our property.

Personally I just love to hear them squeal when that hot bullet punches through their flesh. It's satisfying to know you are the one that took that nuisances life and he will never root up another pasture, crop, or yard.

Pretty rich to call someone lazy for doing something that's legal. These are the same people that push for stupid laws. If you want to speed up the process there's a place called California. You have to buy tags for hogs and can't leave them lay. They have a spot just for folks like you.

If you aren't no big deal....if you're feeling a little guilty...might explain your response.

No guilt here. May go shoot a few after the game and leave me lay. Freezers full & the fields are muddy.

The ones we dont quarter and ice usually go to the gut pile so the rancher doesnt have to deal with them laying around in the cultivated fields. Those that we decide are too big to even haul to the pile get dragged to an area where the rancher doesnt have to mess with them. He wants them all dead and has never said to move them but just thought is was common courtesy to at least move em. They are delicious if you have the patience and skill, my favorite is smoked whole after 24 hours in a brine solution.
H20thief ------------ Positive thinking may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Pretty tasty, Sows are some of the best meat I have had. But then again we take them to a processor.

I agree that hogs are tasty. I clean and keep every one I can, and that's most of them. But, on occasion things don't work out and we drag one to the fence line and leave it. That's just how it goes. No one complains about there being a few less hogs tearing up their fields.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

We took 12 one night to a processor to donate. Turned us away. Said they would only take deer. Gave away what we could at that time of night. The rest went to the bone yard.
