Believe it or not for the second year in a row I am having issues with my SBE II. Sent the gun back to Benelli after last season with cycling and jamming issues and it jammed again this week with a large flight of Pintails locked up. They reworked the magazine components and it worked fine until last week. Ironically it jammed last year with Kent's and did it again with that brand. Talked to 2 guides that use Kent's exclusively and they found it hard to believe. Hevi-Steel worked fine all during teal season and the regular season and even ran some Remi dove loads through it a few weeks ago at my deer lease chasing quail with no problems.
I guess I have 2 questions in that can autos have issues with certain brands and have any of you bought any of the 3.5" O/U that are available out there and what are your thoughts on them. I love O/U's for dove and was thinking about one.
Please advise and thanks !

I've never seen a Benelli that wouldn't cycle. That said, any brand can have a bad one slip through. I didn't help you any but that's my thoughts.

I will look it up. It was a Faststell 3" number 4. I was so pissed I gave the rest of the box to the guide, went back to Hevi and no problems although only shot six times, we were limited out.

I shoot a Stoeger M3500, which also has the inertia system. The only issues I've had with it are after shooting a ton of light 2.5 inch loads when shooting trap, I'll have one jam up. Never had a failure hunting with 3" or 3.5".
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

What it does is after the chamber round is shot it cycles another round into the chamber and then the third round comes out of the mag and blocks the lever so it basically cycles 2 rounds after discharge from the magazine. Thanks for the help and comments.

This will certainly deteriorate into a brand preference (my Versamax cycles everything just fine).
Shooting 3.5" out of an O/U should certainly provide a unique recoil experience for an accustomed auto shooter.
I've never tried it, but my son has a Browning Cynergy and since you've now made me curious enough, I want to give it a try.

Charlie I was looking at the Tristar Hunter Mag. It's half the price of the Cynergy, has a five year warranty and has really good reviews on the net. CZ has one too that is about a grand. Dang Cynergy's are 1500.

I've shot plenty of 3.5s out of my Cynergy. The inflex recoil pad absorbs a lot of the recoil. Your issue is one of the reasons I hunt exclusively with over/unders. I like knowing that it is going to go bang twice every time even when wet or dirty. Plus, it is a breeze to clean.

I had a Cynergy, good gun but I found I missed the third shot. It wasn't quite balanced the way I liked and I didn't shoot it as well either.
Yes, certain guns can like one shell or not like a particular shell. I would stay away from Kent's and shot other stuff.

okay
so everybody knows you can over oil an auto loader?
it isn't a pump gun. oil, and or excessive oil is an auto loaders enemy in the winter. (cold times)
wipe oil on it. and then wipe it off

Idk about your gun, but my A5 won't cycle 3 inch shells unless the rings are set correctly. My super 90 doesn't care, shoots anything.

I've cycled hundreds of Kent 3" & 3-1/2" at various FPS thru my SBE II without failure. What you are describing sounds like an issue with the retainer that keeps the shells in the mag tube. Good luck

Good luck I know Benelli reworked all of the mag components when I sent it back. I am calling them today to discuss the issues and will confirm they replaced the retainer and yes, that has always been my suspicion of the problem. Thank you !

I have had issues with 3.5 inch- including retainer in versamax SBEII and Oder 391xtrema. Shoot A400 now- 3.5 will jam on occasion if muddy or little rusty
I think if you are an avid waterfowl hunter you just need to replace gun every 2 years if shoot 3.5 regularly.
When I hunt big water and ducks finish short on certain days, extra powder and shot makes a big difference- otherwise 3" are fine for most conditions.
Remington is working on my versamax as we speak
