What do you guys use? I don't know if I should use just a handheld or mount one on the front.

I did the research and I'm amazed some guys said they don't like a bow mounted light. When its 5:am, freezing and your oozing thru a stump mine field that front light is great to have. I keep a hand held spot in my storage that I can connect to the socket on my switch plate but I never seem to need it. But its nice to know I got it in the boat should my bow light go out. Once I'm in my hunt spot I keep a streamlight flashlight in my waders for "spotting" the general area. Its about 2.5 inches long and lights up the area. For up close light I use a head light. BTW I run a longtail on my boat...one hand on the throttle and the other on a grab bar. I can't imagine holding a spot while running the timber.

Weld a 1" aluminum pipe to your grab bar and a mount a 3/4" pipe to your light... you can swivel your light and still use the 1" as a grab bar too...

I want a light mainly to see if there's a stump or big wake coming. I'd like something with a wide range.

I'd just go to amazon and buy a 20"-30" spot/flood Cree LED combo and mount on bow. Cheap enough to replace if needed, provides a lot of light.

Mine has been through all kinds of weather and has surprisingly help up very well for a $40 light.

Get a cree lightbar on ebay to mount on the front. Going rate for a 12" one is like 20 bucks. Anyone that tells you you need a "name" brand one that costs big bucks is just trying to help themselves justify spending $350 on a little light bar.

I'll put these lights up against any light bar or anything else... brightest lights I've every seen or used. Electronic ballasts in the 5 lights.

IMO, this is the safest way to travel. I can keep one hand on the throttle, one hand on the steering wheel, and I have light everywhere I look.

Can buy them everywhere in Louisiana, or purchase everything you need at your local hardware store and make one yourself.

I do recommend using rivets and an aluminum cone if you have the tools. Most you buy back home have cones that are silicone into the hardhat, and eventually the silicone will break free with the heat from the light.

Work great for frogging from the boat as well.

I have not tried the hard hat light so I cannot comment on it. But I have learned one thing for sure....I ALWAYS want a CONSTANT light shining the same direction my boat is heading.

We've run timber and tons of mudflats with narrow ditches. As long as you are going straight, that light shining straight ahead works fine. When you are navigating narrow ditches and channels its nice to be able to look to the side slightly and have that light shining exactly where you are looking.

Guess its just personal preference on what you are used to. I feel safer knowing that if I'm traveling down the lake and I see an obstruction, I can immediately look to both sides to see which side is clear. No way I would rely on permanent forward facing lights alone.

I just mounted two cree light bars on the front of my 1448 hooked up to a toggle switch at console. If it's a clear morning with a full moon I can sometimes see better with no light. Also bought a Magellan handheld rechargeable spotlight 1000l lumens for $29.99 at academy. Gonna try out in morning.

I went with a flood/spot combo light bar. I got wiring setup for two lights in case I want to get another one later.

depends on what type of water you are in. flooded timber you want all the light you can get, but I run completely blacked out in marshes once I'm off the main waterway. once your eyes adjust you can see anything in the water
