Did you all have a contract that states all of listed fees etc?

If yes, get a lawyer.

If not, consider it a lesson learned and find another lease.

Good luck!

Hunt agreement yes. The problem is the lease manager took our money and didn't pay bills like he was supposed to. No agreement with him on that aspect of it.

I'll add this.

I am a member of a golf association. The said president of that association had sole access to all of the funds etc. long story, but best we can guess, he embezzled about $33000. Mostly cash. The paper trail only showed about $4000. We made the guy an offer to pay the $4000 back which he refused. We turned over the facts to the DAs office. Because it was $4000 it became felony theft with a possibility of a 3rd degree ($20000+) if they could prove the cash theft. He hired a lawyer and eventually wrote us a check for the $4000 about a year later.

Seems simple to me. He took money that was not his. Embezzlement is a crime. Talk to the DA. Have him arrested.

Looks like I was a heartbeat slow with my suggestion.

This right behind changing every lock to every gate and door on that property. If he makes his way onto it, bust his [censored] for trespassing.

Have the authorities throw the book at the crook.

First thing I would do is call him and tell him you know he's been stealing. Give him 48 hours to pay back the $8622 and kick him off the lease.

If he doesn't pay it back, call the local police department and file a report and press charges.

I'd lock him out and move on

Authorities likely won't do anything

Not enough money to sue over

Time to meet directly with the landowner first. Find out what he's been paid and what he's willing to do to salvage this season that's left first. And what he's willing to do about this thief.

If he's not willing to at least boot the theif, you better leave this lease at the end of the season and not look back.

Then I would call the sheriff to see what charges could be filed after meeting with the landowner.

Sole reason why I lease 1000 acres and the only people on it are my dad, brother and myself... you always loose control at some point.

we have already been notified that we have lost the ranch due to lease manager not sending the agreed money. We do have the rest of this season. It is in Mexico so we have a lot of season left. All lease members are US citizens.

I appreciate all of the response, keep them coming.

Should he be allowed to hunt there this year?

No not really young. LOL. It was more or less a place to keep the funds generated from management deer sales and corn expenses. The theory was that it would be easier to track.

But yes there should've been another signer on the account. That doesn't help me now.

He should not be allowed to hunt. 48 hours to repay or else. All records and contact info, emails, etc should be given to the local DA and full prosecution should begin immediately. This isn't some honest mistake or aw shucks story. Letting guys like this off the hook is a bad thing. It's hammer time.

Multiple signers doesn't help unless multiple signatures are required

Bank reconciliations by someone else are more important

But generally someone can steal if they want to unless you've got checks and balances of a big company

Be glad you caught it and cast him out completely

I don't understand....why is it even being considered that he be allowed to hunt this year?

You painted a picture where he looks guilty as heck, is there something missing? What's his story to why the money is so far off?

SSS if the lease manager were to show back up. People disappear in Mexico all the time.

I think you've won this season's deer lease drama award.

Amazing how some people turn into someone else once you put a gun in their hands, and/or some cash and power to spend it.

The picture I painted is how I have perceived the details as they were told to me. Not sure what is missing yet. He has been unresponsive. Just says, he will get to the bottom of it.

For the rest of the group it is not even a consideration. He insists that he is going back.

popcorn Dang. Lesson learned moving forward, but I'd get with all of the other lease members and at least notify the law and do all I could to insure this never happens again. The good news is you have the rest of the season to hunt and there is always another place to lease next season. flush

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

I would tell him if he insists on continuing to hunt it's gonna hurt and leave a mark.........

Being your in Mexico bringing in law enforcement is gonna be dicey at best.
