Any Young County hunters having luck this year? We have a lot of good mature bucks showing up, but all at night for the most part. They are slowly starting to come to corn and showing up right at dark now though. Tons of does and young spike, fork horn bucks this year as well. What's everyone else seeing/shooting?

I'm in Archer county just north of you. I haven't been out there either of the last 2 weekends. I saw multiple bucks on the second and third weekends of gun season. I saw evidence of the rut on weekends, with the second weekend (saturday nov. 12th) showing a lot of deer movement on the evening hunts. I shot a fully mature 8 pointer that came to the feeder chasing a doe on that friday evening just before dark. I saw a 3.5 year old buck chasing a doe at 1:20 in the afternoon that day, and another mature buck chasing a doe after dark on the FM road when taking my buck to the processor in town. I saw several young bucks cruising looking for does. The next weekend I saw less deer but did watch a mature 8 pointer feed at the feeder in the morning, he responded to my grunt calls aggressively and tore up a small mesquite after hearing them, he left in a hurry moving quickly into the wind with his nose up. He was cruising looking for a hot doe. Now that my area has seen almost 3 full weeks of no human activity, I wouldn't be surprised to start seeing a few new bucks as the post rut forces them to extend their range looking for the few remaining receptive doe. I think the next 2 weekends will be good, especially with the weather we are getting later this week. Its gonna get colder than its been all season, and I think the bucks will still be travelling and they are less likely to be locked in on a hot doe forcing them to keep moving.

I hunt NE young. by loving. I have a few nice bucks showing up. not while I am there yet. I have been seeing a lot of younger deer , yearlings, spikes and small 4 pointer and seen a small 5 point.

I don't think there have been a trip I haven't seen deer. nothing worth shooting.

Same around Murray except one sighting of 5.5 yr old big 8 that's been on cam a lot. Came out at last night never had a shot. Seeing deer every sit which is nice. Just waiting to be at the right place right time.

Did any of you young county hunters see any good rut activity this year?

I am almost always seeing anywhere from 4-10 doe every sit, and I have seen all of one buck following a doe all season so far. I wonder if the warmer temps early kept the rut activity more nocturnal...but I also wonder if there is more of a trickle rut as there seem to be a lot of mamas and yearlings still together and I had several different crops of fawns this year it seemed. First year hunting here so no history.

Have had some bucks hitting the feeders as of late last week, but my camera batteries died so I don't know what's hitting currently. Cell cameras are great when they have battery and signal, not so helpful when they have one and not the other

Buckeye, I think you are most accurate in your assessment. Think the daytime rut activity was affected by the warmer temps, keeping a lot of it at night and maybe limiting the length of it. That said, the deer seem to be coming back to the feeders for the yellow gold and hoping the secondary rut starts kicking off again with the cooler temps..

I'm going out again this weekend... it's been slow I know of two bucks being brought down on 1500ac... have several others on camera but lost nocturnal.. I wonder if using doe urin will still work this time of the season to try and bring them in.

I'd think its still the right time of the year. Although, there's probably a small fraction of does in heat right now, and considering its less than a month from the peak of the rut, I believe using some doe urine would still be a productive practice. There will be a few doe coming into heat over the next 4 weeks, and bucks are still running solo and searching for a hot doe. With the colder weather and a moon between first quarter and the full moon approaching on the 14th, this weekend ought to make for a good December deer hunting trip. I'm heading out this evening and pumped to have all day Friday at the lease. I'll be in the woods for all but about 2 hours each day, I'm expecting good deer movement and a few new bucks to my area. Seems that always happens about this time of the season.

Down by Murray. Saw more deer last two days than last 2 years. Deer on corn in the AM and on the protein pm. Think the secondary rut is kicking in as I saw a 2.5 year old 8 this morning run a doe into the cover. Chased her out of the feed pen. Saw this doe last night and she is ready for action. 4 young bucks wouldn't do her last night but the 8 was ready to pounce. Just wished he had done it where I could see the mount. Always wanted to see that.

Good luck, back out early next week.

Hunted three stands this am (small group of us) and we saw 4 doe, 1 doe and 2 yearlings, and a spike. No big boys this am. Wasn't a good am for movement, and I am hoping the wind keeps the felt temp down this afternoon and they are moving better. We will see

Back in the stand once more tonight. Have four stands bein hunted so maximal productivity. Will see if we can take anything.

Little cooler and wind a little better than expected for today. Very comfortble, hope the deer think so too

In my pop up now. Had 2 small bucks under the feeder before light eating corn I spun out. Might be a good windy morning.

Saw one of my 2 mature shooter bucks this AM at 0730. Windy and 50 out. He was on the trail of a hot doe and chasing. Saw him for about 20 seconds then gone in the brush. She came out 15 minutes later, he never did. Got laid and took a nap. Dang it !

Secondary rut still on as there are still does to be bred out there.
