I'm thinking about getting a deer lease just outside Hamilton, texas towards gustine area on highway 36 (near the Comanche/Hamilton county line)on the leon river. There is acres and acres of big pecan trees on the river. The place is pretty open for the most part but but butts up to the leon river for a good stretch. There is a lot of brush around the property/river. I am wanting to know how many deer I might see in one sitting and the quality of bucks in the area. I never hunted this area before. Ive also never hunted a place with that many pecan trees. any info would be greatly appreciated!! thanks

How big is the place ?? How much hunting pressure from neighboring places??? Those are the 2 key factors. A neighbor with 100 acres and takes 8-10 deer off of it ---------- you get the idea.

yea I understand that.. its 187 acres. pretty much just been hunted by the family members 2x or 3x a year. first time hes actually leasing it out. I think it only has hunters on 2 sides from what the guy told us when he showed us the pasture. I just didn't know what the deer population or the size of the bucks in that area is. never hunted on the leon river before, didn't know how many deer traveled the pecan bottom on it

the best person to ask this question is the guy you're leasing it from

deer and hogs love pecans

I am not far from the Leon river, lots of deer

I did ask the guy and he says you won't have a problem getting deer but you never know. Might be trying to sell it to me so I get it.. just wanted others input. Are you hunting near that area ? Or just by the Leon

130" deer are not uncommon. If you don't want it, PM me, I'll take it, sight unseen. Leases are hard to come by in this area. Tons of deer.

We have 560 acres on the leon river off 36. Half of our property is hamilton county and half is comanche county. If you are right on the river and right on the county line you have got the be our neighbor.
