This is a toad for low fence, free range Edwards County.

Had him on game cams from early in the year, but mostly in the middle of the night. Some rut activity kept him out until the gray light of dawn first Sunday in December, and I shot him as soon as I could see the crosshairs in the scope. Watched him run off a whole group of axis, including a pretty big buck, when it was still too dark for me to take a shot. I was certain they were about to run him off. But he bowed up and chased them out. Put in a whole a lot of time sitting in a pop-up and walking the area where we had him on camera. Glad I finally got lucky.

Awesome buck. Mud caked on his horns like a Cape Buffalo. up

Shot him during a break in that three day rain storm. North wind blew out the moisture for a few hours, and the deer went crazy.

Did you drop that deer off at the processors in Weatherford? If so I saw in yesterday. Nice buck!

No, I shot him last weekend and brought him to fortson's in Waco.

Regarding the age comments, I had posted this on another thread, but we've got a ton of 2.5 and 3.5-year-old deer, then a few 4s and no 5s I don't think. Drought related. I think this was a "pre-drought" deer. I don't know how to read the teeth, but I asked the taxidermist to pull the bottom jaw and check it out.

That's an old warrior right there. He lived a good long life. Congratulations on a true trophy.
