One of the guys I was with got video of the hogs making the craters. I was shooting at two hogs off screen. One will come running by near the end and duck under the fence. We recovered it. As it was the last hog, it had was a prime target and ended up with several holes in it.

While leveling some craters with my frontend loader last week, I found the same grubs under some of the dirt I was moving around. Texas sized suckers right there!

Yes, but at what depth were the grubs? That seems to be the key. No doubt they eat grubs and other insects, but are the particular grubs found at such depths and it that what they are actually after, or are they after something else and the grubs happen to be there as well?

These were at all 3 locations and were in the loose dirt I was pushing around with the tractor. This was during the warmer weather so they may have just been closer to surface due to being dug up. I did a little exploring with the backhoe and the ones still in the undisturbed soil were 12-18" down. There were lots of big earthworms in the same area also. It does make me wonder as pigs usually root by smell and if they dug them up, I would think they would find any that were close to the surface. Added note: The ground where the pigs were rooting was hard packed blackland with scrub mesquites in 2 places and open sandy loam on the creekbottom.
