My friend and myself were near Uvalde, it was thick cover, different blinds . I heard him shoot 3 rapid shots, twice, 6 shots total------- after hunting I asked him what happened and he said he had 2 'sound shots'-------- fired 3 times into the brush but couldn't find any deer afterward. I"m debating kicking him off of the lease. That seems dangerous.

I think he at least needs to be bitch slapped and then kicked off the lease.

I thought when looking at the title I was going to be reading about good shot placement, like that shot was sound it hit the deer perfect and dropped him, that horse is sound, etc.

Yeah, need to kick that guy off he is defiantly not sound.

I have "if it's brown its down" buddies that shoot the first deer they see but they're meat hunters and hunt for meat only. Not knowing what you're shooting at is different and extremely dangerous. Too many risks, heaven forbid he kills another hunter or the rancher.

Print off this link. And when he is driving through the gate for the last time, hand it to him so he knows exactly why he is looking for another lease and how not to make the same mistake again.

I know he is your friend. Do him the best favor of his (and possible others) life.

He needs to be educated and removed from the lease.

This. Make sure he is educated on the situation. Don't need him showing up on someone else's lease with the same ignorance.

Was he shooting toward the ground? In the air? In to a dirt berm? Or just blindly in to the brush? Even if he did have a safe target it's pretty much an inconsiderate action.
Maybe he is a closet anti-hunter trying to make sure Bambi knows there are hunters in the woods...
He does not sound very experienced, has he taken a hunters education course? Maybe never had the opportunity to hunt while growing up and needs a little mentoring?
If he is your friend you may not want to kick him off the lease especially if he is good friend. If he is a good friend then you should be comfortable enough to educate him that what he was doing was dangerous and possibly hurting both your chances to get a deer.

Off the lease before the end of the day. You may need to be looking for a dead person. I could have been you making the noise tracking a wounded deer and not paying close enough attention to your location.
No way he would ever get to hunt the same place with me again.

First need to educate him on hunting/shooting, we need to be teachers and educators.
Second ask him him what his intentions are from here on out, get him to think about what could happen.
Third say bye bye.

Send him back to the "city" where he belongs and never allow him on the lease again. I guided a mule deer hunter in Colorado that was like that, one hunt and never again.

I have a city boy cousin that used to come hunt with us once in a while. We scattered a covey of quail, and some of them flew into an open front hay barn. They flew again as he walked in, and he shot a hole in my grandads hay barn. My grandad went over and took his gun, and very quickly he whipped the crap out of him with a set of reins. He never hunted with us again.
