Need to buy a scope for a new gun for my daughter, she's 9, want something with good eye relief and light gathering, doesn't need a lot of magnification 3x9 is fine. Not set on budget, but not high end scopes. Recommendations please.

I believe the Minox is a much better scope than the Crossfire.

I agree, boo. Just thought they were in the range the OP was looking.

Thanks guys, most everything is 40mm or below. What about a 50, would it not gather light better. I will admit I'm not an optic guy, and need the advice.

I put a Redfield 3-9x50 on my wife's 22-250 and she seems to like it. For a cheaper scope, its got pretty decent glass in it.

I have strong feelings about 50mm objectives, you don't gain much if anything. The quality of the glass is more important than objective size. Most decent scopes today deliver more light than the eye can use. Quality of glass and the lens coatings mean more IMO. Those are the things that show better contrast and resolution, not a bigger objective.

You do get a larger exit pupil with a 50mm objective, but I think that's the major advantage. One advantage of the 40mm is that you can mount it lower but you do have to pay attention to bolt hadle clearance on the ocular bell.
