My girlfriend is new to hunting this fall. She was along for the ride on a night of hog hunting in September and she was hooked! She fired her first rifle and hit bullseye the same weekend. She filled feeders with me in October. She has deer hunted with me all season. Due to family rules, she wasn't allowed to shoot til December since she's not technically family...yet?!?!

The forecast leading into the weekend was not favorable. I asked if she still wanted to go hunting this weekend. Her reply was "well heck yea, I'm going to my buck!" On my way home from work Friday evening, I called her and asked if she remembered to get her license knowing that she had forgotten since I didn't go with her. Her hunting license was purchased at 6:41pm Friday night in Hudson Oaks. After some packing and selection of warm/dry clothes, we were off for the weekend.

The alarm went off Saturday morning and rain was loud on the tin roof. I asked if she was sure she wanted to hunt. "Well of course, I've got to get my buck!" We were off to the stand shortly after. I was struggling with the gate latch into the pasture in the dark and rain. I turned to look for her to hold the gun and she was 30 yards towards the stand! She was determined.

The morning was wet and cool. We were damp in the stand which didn't help at all. The wind was cold too. She was a trooper though. Deer were on the oats at daylight and deer mingled about til 8:20am. I was busy with my work cell phone so we stayed in the stand longer. At 8:45am, I closed the windows to break the wind. We could still through the plexiglass windows. I coordinated my business with work and looked up to see a buck enter the oat field. I chuckled and said "that deer would come out right now." She said what deer?! I said "a buck you can shoot!" She came alive in the stand shedding a blanket and was ready. I talked her through it one more time and she said she was ready. I opened the window and she raised the gun. We had to wait for the perfect shot. She did very well waiting for the right shot. I gave the "fire when ready" signal and BOOM!

The buck dropped and did a half spin on the ground. He was done. She was thrilled! She said that she couldn't control her excitement and she had never experienced such a rush in her life. I believe she's hooked!

We bought her license at 6:41pm Friday night and she killed her first deer, a beautiful 8 point, at 9:08am Saturday morning! The buck is 15.5" inside and 17" outside. 8" G2's and 7" G3's.

Needless to say, I'm beyond thrilled to have a hunting gal and very proud of her. She's pretty wonderful up
