My friend, Cissy Beasley, took these photos of this south Texas buck before and after the rut. I thought it was such a great and dramatic photo that I asked to share it with y'all on this forum. Enjoy!

Great picture but just wondering what nearly severed off half of his ear. The side that most of the antler is missing.

He's a perfect stranger like a cross of himself and a fox.
He's a feeling arranger and a changer of the ways he talks.
He's the unforeseen danger and the keeper of the key to the locks.

Not uncommon during fights. Ears often get ripped or torn. They can get pinched between fighting antlers, or even bit by opponents.

This buck is beaten up pretty bad, with a gash on his neck - and appears to be about 30-40 pounds lighter. Don't know if he was the winner or loser in the fight, or this was several fights. But as Cissy said, "We are hunting for the OTHER guy".

Wow, look at the weight loss! This is a good reason not to hunt the rut.

That buck is hurting, not so much from the visible damage, but he probably has even worse injuries you can't see.
I witnessed a guy skin a big buck a few years back that was beat up so bad from the rut, that he had to actually throw away the entire deer because it was one big bruise had multiple puncture wounds that were infected.
You can see the blood soaking through the skin all the way down the side and on the hind quarter. Other side probably looks the same!
Hope he survives!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Going to print those pictures off and put into our camp house. Our deer are so fat that even the young ones start looking mature - have to be very careful
