Cattle Trump Deer...
End of Conversation In the current cattle market, yes. It wasn't too many years ago ranchers were making more from hunting than ranching cattle.

I hunted with a friend of mine this past weekend. It's about a 100 acres with 30-35 cows on it. No feeders or plots. Just hunting trails and funnels. We saw 31 deer in 4 hunts. This is in an area of East Texas where you do not usually see that many deer. Acorns, trails, and some kind of scrubby looking tree with big leaves was the ticket. I do not know yet what kind of tree, but I'm looking to plant some. Almost every deer we saw came to these trees and were eating the leaves as the fell to the ground like candy. 2nd time I've heard this in a week, I think my buddy said they were hackberry leaves he watched deer eat all morning...
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

I will never hunt a property with cows again, or any livestock for that matter. When I bought my place in 2004, I refused to lease it for cattle despite many offers. Best decision I ever made. I'm on the 2nd year of owning my place. I've had several people want to graze it. I am under a wildlife management plan to keep the taxes down. As long as I have this I see no cattle grazing in our future. Especially not during the hunting season.

How do you know? Because deer hunting is more important to me than grazing lease money. All worked out anyway because it makes hay now.

I have cattle---there is no way you can't build a sturdy pen to keep the cattle out. Heck, build the pen and weave barb wire or razor wire along the top. A bag of cubes is $6; if you don't hunt much, then spread in a line in the grass, a long distance. You could go broke if you hunt a lot.

Like others have said a feed pen and feed them something by the front gate. No cattle on our place since we bought it, but the intent is to get some when we get fences cleaned up enough and hopefully the old man is retired. It would be nice to have something to eat the grass... it can be a pain in the azz from time to time! This is from a dry summer, in a wet year I'm 6-foot and it will be over my head.

Good grazing management is the difference between cattle being a pest or a tool to help manage hunting land. Cattle can help optimize deer hunting if managed properly, on quail pasture they can make the difference between sustainable populations and none. Livestock are crucial to managing land and greatly beneficial when done properly.
Passive cattle grazing with poor management mixed with a hunter who is spending money on corn and protein is a bad recipe. Cows are dumb but when soemone shows up with a pile of food in a truck every week they are going to show up if they are hungry. They are also creature of habitat once they get on a feeder its twice as much work to get them off. Try and find quality leasers, who won't overstock, who don''t starve cows, and understand managing grassland not just pillaging it.

Some of y'all didn't read the OP. A feeder pen won't solve my issue. They follow me all over the property. My feeder isn't even working right now and there were 14 cows in front of my blind last night.

Your problem is 14 - 20 cows on 100 acres, they expect every human they see to feed them. IMO, too many head on too few acres.
If you feed them to lure them somewhere else / out of your way, they will associate you with food and never stop pestering you.

Pen wouldn't solve my issue either. My issue is I don't want them on my place period. I don't want their crap, their tracks, their trails, their wallow holes, their bawling, their smell ....... in short, their presence.
Or sheep or goats or anything else.

Guess feeder pens only work in certain parts of the country. For the third time, my issue isn't that they are eating my corn. It's that they are in my way. They aren't eating my corn.
