Maybe I should re-phrase...what kind of store or business should I contact to see if they have 55 gallon barrels to sell?
helomech, not a slam at you, but Huntsville is a long way for me to go for a $10 barrel.
Thanks for the help!!

Go to a fuel/oil distributor or bulk plant they will have them, they will probablly cut the top out for you. If they wont just take a pipe wrench and open it up till it just goes over the top rim and hit it with a 4 lb. hammer it will knock a hole where the top jaw of the wrench is, then just keep doing that till the top is cut out. You can cut the top out with a torch IF you know what you are doing, IF you dont don't even try it.
Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

You can also get them from commercial construction sites. They will usually give you the barrels that the concrete sealer came in. But if you do that, make sure that you power-wash it REAL well with soap and water. I took mine to the car wash and cleaned it. Came out as clean as a food grade barrel.

I tried to use a hole saw but that didn't do so well so I used my Dremel with diamond cut off wheels ( Harbor Freight).

I've used a hole saw before, but most of the time I use a torch or plasma cutter. If you don't have access I think a hole saw is the best way. JMO.

Well you're in lubbock! Thats 5 hours from anywhere in Texas! I would look towards local industrial supply places like hydraulic shops, tractor supply or anywhere production is happening. I've picked up 55 gallon drums several times from business that just have them laying out back. Usual full of water or something that can be dumped. Stay away from oil and gas of course.

In Lubbock, I use to get them from Scrub a dubb, up on the North Loop and Ash, can't remember the price (it's been a few years). Back then they had new and used barrels very reasonable prices.

I used a drill to start the holes, then a jig saw with a metal blade.
