Y'all might want to keep track of these and make the phone calls, etc. for the ones important to you. I think this covers most of the hunting and firearms related bills that have been introduced. Big public thank you to The Texas Concealed Handgun Association for keeping track and putting all this stuff online. http://www.txchia.org/legistex09.htm#hb836 HB3766. Its not about Dove hunting as reported, but about all hunting including Bow Hunting. http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/city/collin/stories/032709dnmetburbhunting.3ba237b.html The Crossbow bill HB968 has passed the House with only 1 Nay. This one might just come to reality.

HB 1395
An animal cruelty bill that attacks hunters. Changes the status of hunting from an exception to a defense to prosecution, so hunters can be charged with animal cruelty and forced to defend themselves in court.

Categories: Possession. Status: Filed 2/26/09. 3/4/2009 Referred to Public Safety.
Relating to exempting the intrastate manufacture of a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition from federal regulation.
Firearms, ammunition, and accessories manufactured in Texas and remaining there would not be subject to federal law or federal regulation, including registration, under the authority of the United States Congress to regulate interstate commerce.
Does this mean that you could manufacture a machine gun in Texas and as long as it stayed in Texas it would not have to be registered with the ATF or subject to the Tax Stamp. I assume the term accessories would include suppressors.
Anyone have any idea on this?

OK I read the whole bill and a firearm that fires two or more rounds with one trigger pull is an exception.
Meaning it is a no go.
BUT, in the language of the bill I don't see anything else that is currently regulated federally. That would mean that short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns, suppressors or anything else for that matter are OK.
Man that is a major change, and I hope this goes through. It is nice to see that Texas is trying to take some of our rights back from the feds!

So, single shot rifles and O/U shotguns will be in style I suppose. Do any of us really think the state of Texas will defend us against an ATF guy enforcing federal law? I doubt it....It is a nice gesture, but not gonna hold much water.

What chaps my arse is that the federal government has not right to make any gun laws.
I can tell you this, if I am ever on a jury where someone is charged with a federal gun crime I will not find them guilty no matter what the evidence is, same thing will go for taxes, or any other federal crime.

Our government has gotten so far out of whack with the realities of who and what are decent American people. They protect and nurture all of the exceptions to this and make the "normal" decent people feel guilty for being angry at them for supporting the freeloaders in society. America is becoming the land of the weak..not the strong.

be very careful how this is written, in louisiana i do not remember the exact wording, but basically it said the right does not allow you to use other persons land without their permission, sounds perfectly reasonable, liberal judge decided that 200 years of law no longer applied to fishing over land flooded by the river based on this new law, you are no longer allowed to go where the river takes you to fish, you must stay within the banks
