Anyone used the ELD-Xs hunting? I used them on a recent elk hunt and while effective, they provided far less internal damage then I was expecting. I'm talking half dollar holes through both lungs and complete penetration at 343 yards. That's mono-metal bullet performance. He didn't go very far at all, I was just expecting both lungs to be put through the blender. Anyone have similar or polar opposite experiences?

I haven't tried this bullet, and probably won't...but I'm always watching and listening. About how fast did you launch that bullet? And which one was it, exactly??

My son shot a cow elk at 90 yards with a 30-06 with the 178 grain ELDX factory loads...she went down hard. Here is link to the video I took of it. If the link doesn't work go to youtube and search "KJ vs Elk" Way better results than I have had with Barnes TTSX out of my 300WM. I'm working on loads for the 200 grain ELDX for my 300WM and plan to switch to them for elk hunting moving forward.

Yes sir it did. He did a 180 and fell over 3-4 feet from where he was hit. As I said, I had no problem with the end result, I was just surprised when I did the autopsy to see it did such little damage. I'm not going to switch anytime soon, I just thought it was going to be more like a Berger and less like a Barnes.

On lung shots, if the lungs are full of air when the bullet goes through a hole that size is not uncommon, lungs not full of air mangled ness and drt often happen. Bullet did its job.

I just got back from Africa and used Eldx bullets.

Browning 300 win mag
200 grain eld x
2960 fps
hornady brass with 72 gr. of rl22

First animal shot was a Nyala at 178 yards. bullet hit right behind the shoulder and pulled lung out of the opposite side. The bullet did expand. When we caped it we noticed it had a lot of shock on the opposite side. It was strange seeing lung pulled out of the hole.

Kudu at 278 yards
shot was quartering to me a bit. I hit him in the chest and the bullet was stuck under the skin on the opposite side shoulder it didn't hit the shoulder bone. There was massive amounts of shock on the opposite side. I recovered the shell of the bullet but no lead was found. Only about 40% of the shell retained and intact.

Common springbok
289 yards behind the shoulder, it blew lung out the exit hole on trees 30 yards away. Tons of shock on the exit side.

black springbok
277 yards laying down quartering to me. Bullet hit him just below the neck and hit the shoulder on the opposite side. It turned his shoulder into 1000 pieces of bone.

White springbuck
87 yards. It destroyed his shoulders and tmy cape. It hit him high in the front shoulder and blew a 8 in hole on both side of him. It ripped the hide in half from bullet hole to bullet hole.

Pics of the animals are in my Kingsview Review on the Guides and Outfitters section. My feelings on these are they seem like a ballistic tip bullet. I thought they would penetration and retain alot of thier weight but this was not the case. Both bullets I recovered had less than half weight retention and no lead was found just a hollow jacket. Everything died within 10 yards of being shot. I Dont know how they would have done on a front shoulder shot of a heavy animal though. I liked the fact that everything shot died quickly but I'm not sure that I would use them for a Kudu or elk. I just feel like a shoulder on big animals may hold up on this bullet.

Thank you for the report, and congrats on the hunt! up

Shock on the off side is not what I expected, and is the opposite of what Scooterb experienced. Interesting.

I wish I would have taken pics but everyone noticed how much shock there was. The PH I had said he couldn't believe it, as he's never seen anything like it. He called them my grenades.

I'm running the 200ELDX out of my 300WM at 2820 with 72.7g H4831. 22in barrel Rem700LSS. The accuracy of this load is spectacular. Have not put on animal yet. December mule deer/aoudad operation for that.

Also developed load for buddys Les Baer AR10. 178ELDX over 41.6 varget. Was getting .255 groups at 100 yds off bench.
