We have several ground blinds within 40 yards of a feeder. Our tower stands are typically 80-120 yards away.

No way to know for sure, but I've heard guys claim they were so close to deer while hunting in a ground blind, they could have practically reached out and grabbed them.

My two blinds are 75 and 85 yards but I have to boys. I wanted to give them a decent shot without sitting on top of the feeders. During last weekends youth season, we had two does them a small buck on the feeders. Let's just say my son was not the quietest blind companion I've hunted with and his movements were a little more than desired. The deer never spooked at least but we may have just been lucky.

Far enough away that they can't hear it when you open another beer.
Mine are 120 to 175yds.

Tree stand is about 60 yards to feeder. Has worked fine with me. I do have a piece of camouflage hanging on the front for a little extra concealment

Quiteness is essential, wind is essential. With that I would not set any closer that 60 yds. This I believe will give a good buffer zone.

Sons feeder is 150 yrds, mine is 250 yrds. Both have a lot of visibility for deer coming and going from feeders. Stands and feeders have been in same place for 15-16 years. Deer are used to them and will pass within 5-10 yards of stands going to and from feeders.

On our ranch in Menard we had a 4x4 on the ground next to a road. Corned the road including right in front of the blind. Had a spike walk within 3 feet of it. Never sat that still in my life.

Or swing the door open and take a leak.

I have always thought it would be cool to build a feeder into a stand. Just want to be able to reach out and smack one.

I put my feeders around 150 yards out so the deer I'm not interested in at the feeder will not alert the deer I am interested in. I have a 14' tower so 20' with be blind and the deer at the feeder watch it like a hawk.

I did that once, built a feeder and bow stand on top of it. It was fun, but exposed...

I like to have them 100+ yards away. 200 is better. It's deer camp. Bad stuff will be ingested...beer, sausage, chili, coffee, etc. Your digestive tract will be thrown into utter chaos, causing much distress. Often those long sits in the stand create odd noises and noxious odors. Y'all know I'm right.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

I'd feel like I couldn't breathe if it's less than 100 yards. All of ours are between 150-200 yards.

I was on a lease a couple of years ago, and across the road from our gate, there was a box blind about 4 feet off the ground with a wooden ramp leading up to it. There was a feeder about 20 yards away. The other guy on our lease said the owner of the property was in in 80's but still liked to hunt. He would park his truck about 50 feet from the blind, and go up the ramp with his walker. The feeder was set to sling corn about once an hour, and the deer and pig traffic was unreal.
The old man would shoot a deer every year, and then call his son (who lived a couple of miles away) to come get the deer, then he would just sit in the stand and let his son do all the work. His son told my friend he didn't mind doing that because his dad took him hunting for years when he was a kid, and did all the work, and this was the son's way of paying back.
On my current lease, I have a single feeder with a pop-up bow blind 30 yards away, a box blind 150 yards in one direction, and a 12' high ladder stand in a tree 250 yards away so I can watch the trail I throw corn on for 300 yards in both directions.

Have one that's 180 and another that's 100. Only two feeders we have on 600 acres. They both are very successful setups. Hopefully Dan, 40 will be just right for your friend. Kiddos to you for taking the time to accommodate him. You're a steward of hunting. Thank you

What is the minimum distance that you would put between a stand and feeder for rifle shots?

Thanks.

How about someone teach him how to shoot?

Would be a better gift to him in the long run too.

One is 80 yards, one is 95 yards, one is 105 yards and the other is 190 yards. But I do not shoot around the feeders since I corn an area or road to shoot.
