Had a doe and a 6 point in the front yard (pasture) this afternoon. The doe was running around like crazy, zooming past the buck again and again. The buck seemed mildly interested. Something is going on, or about to.

I hope you're right. I was just up at the ranch the past two weekends and was getting mixed signs. One morning hunt I had heard a buck grunting and had two doe come running by me and a small 5 point chasing them. I thought for sure the rut was starting to kick off. But that evening I had the same does and the 5 point eatting together under the feeder and the larger momma doe was pushing that small buck out. Wouldn't let him eat. Then the next weekend on the morning hunt I had 3 doe at one feeder eating and at my other feeder I had a spike, a small 7 and shooter 11 eating together. But then the 3 bucks made their way over to the does and the large 11 started chasing the does around. Im still sick that he wouldn't ever step out of the woods long enough to give me a shot! The ironic part is we usually start seeing new bucks moving into the area about this time every year when the rut kicks off. Haven't had a single shooter picture yet. Only seen the one in person and had taken my cards out of the camera the night before so I don't have any pictures of him to even study

My .02 cents has always been up in Navarro near Dawson, the second or echo rut really brings the shooter bucks out. I've owned my little ranch since June 2014 and the earliest I've ever had a picture of non-bachelor shooter is November 23. Then usually the next two weeks are decent and then zero. Mid-January I'll have good bucks hitting corn once everything is dead and cold.

I always think its due to Navarro having a smaller overall deer population and not all doe's get bred the first round. The bigger dominant bucks really come out of the woodwork during the November rut. I guess its a second rut but some guys I've met swear its the first. Eitherway, I know some of those big bucks will travel 4 or 5 miles to find doe's. Espicially on the creeks...

Last two weeks of Oct. always is the best prerut action here... then things get heavy the next to weeks if its cold enough
