I am going to be replacing the stock on my new rifle as soon as it gets here, but am having a hard time deciding between a Hogue Rubber Overmolded stock or a HS Precicion stock. Which one would you pick and why?
Thanks.

The HS stocks I have used in the past have been made out of a kevlar blend with aluminum bedding blocks. Excellent for the money.
I don't know what the Hogues are made of. You might want to research it and compare the materials and bedding systems.

I have no idea what Hogue stocks are made of either. I was just supporting the fairness doctrine. when I voted it was 1-0 in favor of HS. I felt it my duty to make it a fair poll.

I have both. If you have a HS you don't want, I can work a trade/$ with you for this Hogue stock I have.
The HS stocks are aluminum bedding block, epoxy stock with kevlar layers.
The Hogue is a plastic injection, with aluminum pillars, wrapped with a rubber overmold.
The HS aluminum block is a no-brainer for simplicity. Just torque your guard screws consistantly.

What are the upsides and downsides to both for those that have them or have experience with them?

The HS is stiffer, and has a better bedding system.
The hogue has a flexy fore end, but has the rubberized cover (if you like that).
The hogues sell for ~$50 used, the HS bring $150-250.

I noticed 7 people voted for Houge. Those of you who did have never compared them to the H&S or you would see why it is leaps and bounds better than any Houge on the market.
The H&S Precision stocks are used on LEO and Military Sniper rifles all over the country and are some of the best stocks you can buy hands down. The US Armys M24 sniper rifle proudly wears an H&S and has done so for many years.
One huge problem with a Houge is the forearm of the stock does not have the rigidity it needs to be a precision stock. The pillars do not run the length of the stock and allows the forarm to flex causing the stock to come in comntact with the barrel. This makes the free float barrel inafective. The Houge is honestly a Tuperware POS !!
One stock that you should check out is the Bell & Carlson Medallist. B&C used to be pretty crapy as well, but those days are over. The Medallist is designed just like H&S but they have several different styles of stocks to choose from. I just put a Medallist on a Rem 700PSS and it is near identical in quality as the H&S.

H&S is the good one. Hogue is the cheap one.

I just have a problem with HS employing the sniper who killed Randy Weavers' wife as a spokesman.

I wondered if this would come up. Huge mistake if you ask me. The HS product is good, but bad politics, man. I wouldn't spit on Lon Horiuchi if he were on fire. F him.

If yall are talking about the picture that was posted on the braggin board of the HS site it was proven to be a fraud!
I dont know if they employ the guy that killed the weavers or not, but I know that the picture that was added to the braggin board was not actually on the HS site!

I kinda like the houge stocks. Don't gotta worry about dinging them up and such. Great for varmint rifles.

We talked about it in depth when it happened. It never came up as fraud. For HS sake, I hope it is bull.
But I don't take back what I said about the Butcher of Ruby Ridge. F him.

I did some research and he is or was employed by HS to help sell stocks to the FBI!
The picture of Viki Weaver was never posted in the trophy room though despite a very clever recreation of the HS trophy room making it appear that way!

I wouldn't spit on Lon Horiuchi if he was on fire. But, the HS is far superior in stiffness, strength, and durability. The HS is a professional's rifle stock. The Hogue is a nice hobby stock for the guy who sits in a deer stand once a year. There is nothing wrong with that as most of us are hobbyists. If you want a serious tool, buy the HS.

If you keep an eye on McMillan's website they have discounted 2nds, cancelled orders and overruns that are available for ~$100 off and ship immediately.

Been digging into the Lon Horiuchi/H-S Precision connection.
It appears that it was an endorsement by Horiuchi on the H-S Precision catalog.
If this proves to be true, to my way of thinking, that will knock H-S Precision off my list of people that I choose to do business with.
As most here have commented. Lon Horiuchi is the scum of the earth. I don't care to do business with people who evidently have no qualms about gaining the endorsement of murderers.
I was considering the purchase of one of their stocks. No more. And I have informed H-S Precision of my feelings about it as well.
