I have been using HS6 in 40 S&W since I started loading it. It also works well for me in 9mm. In all my testing it seems to deliver good accuracy and a bit lighter recoil. The shortages of the past have started me thinking of getting one powder that works well in 9mm, 40S&W, and 45 ACP. A powder that I have experimented with in the past looked very promising was HP 38. After loading some 40 tonight I ran out of the last of my HS6 and decided to make the switch over to HP38. I cleaned out the hopper and cleaned up any residue. I opened the new container of HP38 and as is my ritual I smelled the contents. I also noticed the the texture is very much like HS-6. I use a Lee Loadmaster and my HS6 load is 5.7 Gr. I was surprised to discover that without changing any settings that my measure dropped exactly 5.7 Gr of HP38. This makes me think that it is probably the same base but with more or less inhibitors / Nitro. This is not meant to suggest any type of load comparison, but I had always suspected that some of the different powder types were nothing more than slight adjustments of components on older proven powders. Just one guy thinking out loud .....

I have a question that is in the same category as another post, does anyone use CFE pistol in 9mm, 40, and 45ACP ? I am seriously looking at purchasing at least 1 8 lb of a good powder that can be used for all of the above. I have used the CFE .223 in several calibers and it works well across a broad list of the rifle calibers that I shoot.

I've never used HS6, and that's interesting. I don't know if you would recall, but last time we talked I think I told you that HP38 is exactly the same as W231, just in a different container. That could come in handy one of these days.

I use HS-6 in my mild cowboy action type loads for 45 colt. I haven't loaded any in a while but I'm pretty sure its 9 grains of HS-6 and a 250 grain cast LRNFP.

HS6 is the same as Winchester 540.

I use Bullseye and The newer BE86 for all my 9mm 40 and 45acp with good results. All target loads though
