my rem poly barrel keeps getting clogged...period! Never had anything so aggrivating- I have 1/2 a mind to pull off the funnel and motor and slap a protein tube extension on it and be done with it, but the barrels are not the biggest and I am not real confident they will free folw the protien down the tube...

any suggestions?

Dave

Mine rarely clog, you could put a funnel in it.

never had a problem with mine except when my battery died and got really old corn in there, a good idea might be to take some caulk and put it where the barrell is put toghether, keeps out a lil water. but i have to say that i am extremely satisfied with mine and will buy another when i need it.

What are you feeding? Corn, protein, corn/soy?

If it is one of the Remington barrels that screws together top to bottom, it is probably getting too much water or humidity in the barrel causing the inside to get wet and clump the corn or protein. Get some silicon and seal the gap between top and bottom.

If you are throwing protein, Good Luck, it always jams up in a broadcast feeeder... even before it gets wet.

A protein drop tube is not a bad solution if you don't have too many coons, squirrels, birds or cows.

Good Hunting,
Gary

I read about the fix on the other post, and might give that a try, but I am in th market for a protien feeder and thought this might be a good soultion...

There is no moisture in the barrels-Heck we have has maybe 5 1oths of an inch in the last 6 months out here...and the corn is not clumping up.

I am throwing corn only-started with a light mix of corn and protein, but dunped it and have sine put in 3 different brands of corn-some cleaner than others, but all of it seems to not come down the funnel-I mean the barrel is full, nearly full , 1/2 full, 1/4 full what ever, but the thing will not come through the funnel...

I think I am going to take it down and try to rig up a protein feeder like what helomech has on his metal barrels...

thats weird friend, i have nothing but good to say about mine, sorry to hear your woes. And ive never run clean corn in any of my feeders, i buy it from the feed store for cheaper than wal mart academy etc. and ive never had a cob clog anything up, Im sure u dont have the spinner to close to the funnell right??? and are u sure that the timer is feeding???? i mean, if you take the spinner off does corn flow out or just hang in there clogged somehow?

I have adjusted the spinner real close to as far away as possible-and even taken it off and it still stays clogged...maybe the funnel is too narrow or something. I will check into changing the funnel, but I will probably try and convert the barrel to a protien feeder of some sort.

thanks for the input though! sometimes it helps to talk this stuff out...

I'mnot familiar with this particular feeder or the funnel it uses, so take this as you will. I'm guessing you have one of several things going on:
1.The opening out of the funnel is too small, or the angle of the funnel is too shallow.
2.The spinner is too close allowing the corn to bridge the hole at the transition to the down-tube when stopped, then when it spins, it only dispenses what's in the down-tube.
3.There is some sort of burr or lip where the down-tube meets the funnel preventing smooth flow.
4.You have a combination of the above symptoms.

Fix any problems you find, but if you find nothing,
try installing a peg or sheet-metal screw into the funnel right where it starts to turn down (sticking up towards top of feeder)so it sticks out about an inch or so. This creates a slight void behind the obstruction and greatly helps the corn to flow\swirl into the tube instead of bridging the gap.

The Tool Man is right of course, and all those items need to be checked the only other item I can think of is being that the Remington feeder is black and how well the lid seals condesation may be forming and helping agrivate the problem. Might consider a metal calvanized lid. I have fought many of these issues myself years ago and nothing is more frustrating. I had to crawl a ladder and empty 300 lbs. of corn and protien years ago. A friend of mine has been mixing his for years without an issue. There are two things different, years ago I was using a cam-lock barrel lid forming a tight seal and today it is a slip over galvanized. The other thing is, that back then I had to haul corn up a ladder to fill my feeder today I use a winch feeder, and of course I think the winch feeder solved the problem. All jokes aside a tight seal can be a heaven hell situation.

Are you using the little funnel that comes with the feeder? If so, that lower opening is too small. Cut off and discard half of that funnel which will create a bigger opening, enhancing better flow.
