I don't know how the article can claim only 1% of Texas have guns. Less than 1% average on the country as a whole as well. Then they go on to show Wyoming as about the only state that actually has guns and they only have enough for 20% of the population if each hosehold only had 1. Then you add in that some of these houses have multiple guns and that brings our score in Texas way under 1%, which we all know to be untrue. That's a bit silly if you ask me.
The news says we have over 51% gun ownership in America now and most of those having multiple firearms.

Agree with Scary, this doesn't ring true to me either. 350,000 registered guns in all of Texas???? Hell, by looking at the lines, I bet the Cabela's in Fort Worth sells several thousand a year - at least. AND FYI - a quick google search finds several reports of more than 300 MILLION guns in possession of citizens in the US. I think someone at CBSNEWS was smoking some herb when researching their article.

I didn't compile the numbers. AND FYI, I am not saying these rankings are right or wrong, I don't know. I'm not sure the main stream media cares if it is right or wrong. However, the way I read it, this is pertaining to NFA regulated items, not all firearms but I could be wrong.
From the CBS News article:
"Here is a look at per capita weapons data, based on the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and 2013 data from the U.S. Census.
While the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record is the only accessible list of its kind, it is not all-inclusive. NFA firearms only include the categories regulated by The National Firearms Act of 1934: machine guns, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors, destructive devices like bombs and grenades, concealable devices with the ability to discharge a shot through the energy of an explosive, and any firearm with a bore over half an inch that has not been determined to have a legitimate sporting use."

- cbs is not a reliable source of information
- there is no general gun registry in Texas
- many guns in Texas were passed down or bought from individuals (no ATF forms)
most people I know own guns; I am not certain that I know anyone who does not own at least one gun

Even my mother in law who does not like guns has 2 pistols. Yeah, those numbers are not right.

It's from leftist CBS and is absolute BS. I think they're trying to show just how little gun registration would affect us.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Such are the reasons I posted this to begin with. The country is being fed "statistics" based on ignorance and twisting of the facts and I for one am sick of it.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

If you read the methodology, the author only list Class III NFA firearms registered in Texas. Not anything else, pistols, rifles, shotguns, etc. Just the Tax stamp stuff.

A lot of weapons are not accounted for in the head count. Methodology As America reels from yet another mass shooting, inevitable questions resurface about guns laws and the nation's pervasive firearm culture. Here is a look at per capita weapons data, based on the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and 2013 data from the U.S. Census.
While the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record is the only accessible list of its kind, it is not all-inclusive. NFA firearms only include the categories regulated by The National Firearms Act of 1934: machine guns, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors, destructive devices like bombs and grenades, concealable devices with the ability to discharge a shot through the energy of an explosive, and any firearm with a bore over half an inch that has not been determined to have a legitimate sporting use.
18. Texas Texas comes in at number 18, with 12.8 guns on record for every 1,000 residents. That's 337,309 firearms among 26,448,193 people. In fact, the actual numbers are probably higher because Texans are not required by law to register their firearms. As such, the ATF can only count those who seek background checks.

More than 70,000 people attended the NRA's three-day annual meeting that year, which featured nearly 550 exhibitors, a gun trade show and a political rally
