I have used a whole bunch of different dry rubs and have had mixed results. Recently I was looking for a specific dry rub and couldn't find what I wanted so I had to settle for another.
This prompted me to want to make my own rub. Does anyone have a recipe for a rub they like to use? I'm looking for an all-purpose rub for use smoking ribs, pork roasts, brisket, etc.
Thanks in advance!

My Brother tried for quite a few years to develop his own. Then he bought some from Main Street BBQ in Euless and settled for that. They came in 3rd in a huge contest. The guys who came in first and second were using their rub.

This is the recipe for the spice/rub that made Emeril Lagasse famous. He is a cajun chef from New Orleans and has several shows on food tv. I have used it for several years and it is the best all around spice/rub I have ever used. It is called Emeril's essence and it is absolutely great on all types of meats.
Ingredients
* 2 1/2 tablespoons paprika * 2 tablespoons salt * 2 tablespoons garlic powder * 1 tablespoon black pepper * 1 tablespoon onion powder * 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper * 1 tablespoon dried oregano * 1 tablespoon dried thyme

I started using Adkins years ago. I buy it by the case and get it directly from Adkins just a block or two North of Duncanville, Tx. They have a web-site and are listed in the Dallas directory. If you call and talk to one of the Adkins, tell them Benny in Coleman refered you to them. www.adkinsbbq.com or call 800-356-2914

+1 Have used Adkins for years. I put it on burgers, chicken , ribs, brisket. Good stuff!
You can get it at Kroger in the DFW area. You may have to ask the butcher because it comes in a plastic bag.

I have made and used the Emeril stuff and it is Good Stuff!!! I think I adjusted it a little with more salt on my rub but used the exact recipe for a seasoning on veggies and such.

It is pretty good. It has a ton of pepper though. It is very good just try and keep it even and don't get a ton of it one spot.

I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

I use one my grandpa made up. Only my dad, uncle, and I know it since my grandpa past. My dad makes it for both his side and my moms side of the family for just the cost of ingredients. won't give measurements but ingredients are: (listed descending by qty)
salt chili powder pepper accent garlic powder
It is very simple and good. My suggestion is to find something simple and tinker with it how u like it.

I have used Texas Brothers dry rub on brisket, pork spare ribs, and half chicken with great success. Google the name to find their website.
