You like what you like, and certain cartridges I just don't like would suffice---but I wouldn't pick em just because they'd do the job. I say if you like a .340 Weatherby, then by all means GO for it, but you'll have a hard time convincing me you really need it...and that's hardly necessary at all in the first place. If someone imported water buffalo or elephant, I'd probably select a bit larger caliber, too. So, I'll be more specific: white tail, mule deer, feral hogs, javelina, Aoudad; the game species that I figured the OP was referring to.
