I've always wanted to build a rustic farmhouse table, started off with a coffee table and plan on doing more matching pieces. I went with pine, trued it on my table saw, the joints are biscuited and glued, I did dowel the end boards. I didn't go overboard with the distressing, but did wormholes, nail holes and removed some of the soft grain. Finished it off with probably 10 coats of tung oil, I did give it a good sanding on the 5th or 6th coat. Overall I'm pleased my only regret may be the type of wood used.

That's pretty neat! Did you let the wood dry for a period of time? Also do you have any pictures of the assembly?

I do let it dry but Pine has a mind of it's own anyway. Here's some pics of the next table I'm working on and also this table. You can see the one set of legs is getting cleaned up and starting to take shape.

That looks good. I wish we had a dinning room or somewhere to put a big ole farm table.

Looks good up I built an entry table fairly similar a couple of years back. It feels a lot better when you can say that you built that instead of buying it.

Looks great, but you need to be building something a little....boxier...somewhere in the 5x9 range maybe?

What kind of wood would you rather have used? I think it looks outstanding.

Thanks, appreciate that. Pine has a mind of it's own, it's affected by temperature and humidity, pine is also softer and will be more prone to dings and dents. Any hardwood such as oak would be better and would last longer given the amount of work that goes into it.

Nice job, the finish is beautiful but remains rustic.
