The Republican front runner, Trump's political contributions since 2012. I see very little to worry about in Academy's donations, on the other hand, Trumps love of the Democrats has me extremely worried.

I'm not making a blanket statement without knowledge of which politicians they have donated to. They are listed; do the research. David Gochman has personally donated money directly to Al Gore and Hillary Clinton's past presidential endeavors as well as the Texas Democratic Party, Harris County Democratic Party, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and many other left leaning affiliates. I understand what you are saying about adding value products to sportsman and revenue generation for the pittman act but I can't help but to be appalled by the hipocracy of selling firearms and then giving money to the very people that would gladly taken them away from their customers. I guess they make enough money selling basketballs and jock straps that they don't worry about the Dems snatching guns from their shelves.

they still sale guns and hunting equipment.... In the billion $$$ plus range.

That includes money donated by any affiliates of the company. And they've only donates 204,000 dollars in 20 years. Thats a miniscule amount.

I went back and looked; there are no identified affiliate donations for any of the years listed. The only name is Academy Sports and Outdoors. The founder and his son have always been democratic supporters and financers, that's no big secret. Despite the big picture, 200k+ is a lot more money donated to the wrong party for me to do business there. Your mileage may vary.

.

First Academy sold in 2011, the original family no longer owns it. Second the original owner was a big Hunter, as was his management.

Actually the original owner and his son were both big fishermen not hunters. Although they did hunt occasionally, and when they did it was wingshooting. But they were also very much Democrats and the original owners son,(2nd generation), who ran it for 25 years was a big time civil rights lawyer. He was a nice guy but wasn't a big gun supporter. They actually didn't start selling guns until his son,(3rd generation), started taking over. For the first 15 years I worked with Academy(not at Academy) they did not sell them.

I'm going to vote for Trump but I'm not nor have I ever been a Trump Supporter for that very reason. (I was all in with Cruz.) To your point, Academy sells guns and is still a Democratic Party contributor. Trump, to my knowledge does not sell guns and at least for the moment has renounced the Democratic Party.

For 74 years Academy was a privately held company owned by the Gochman family, until its May 2011 acquisition by the long-time Wall Street investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.

Stopped by the local Academy during lunch. Plenty of rifles. All for sale. All in their box behind the counter. None on the racks.

I purchased a medium amount of ammunition both pistol and rifle larger that 22. 480rds. I was not asked for any personal information.

Not sure if this has been posted but as a loyal long time customer I am disappointed.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/academy-spor...ents-1466117251
Employees have been asked by Academy’s corporate office to remove rifles based on the AR-15 platform from displays, according to a sales representative at an Academy store.

My understanding is that Daniel Defense has ended its relationship due to "moral cowardice.

With all of the misinformation and deception being spewed by the left, this looks like an admission that the weapon is the problem. LETS BE CLEAR--the AR15 was NOT used in Orlando--it was a Sig MCX. But it doesnt change the fact, this whole GUN discussion is a diversion from the fact our govt will not put our citizens first. It is "un-American" to slow immigration from terrorist states but somehow limiting the 2nd amendment is?

Rant done. I will be letting Academy know of my disappointment and that my loyalty to them will be similar to that which they have just demonstrated.

Simply inform them that you as a citizen who likes to exercise your 2nd amendment right are HIGHLY OFFENDED by their decision and action regarding this matter. Notify the store manager, his boss, and corp. What I will be doing anyway....

We should start an open letter on here, Dear Academy this how John Q Public feels about your decision..

I bet a lot of people would read/post on it and it wouldn't be long before Academy’s Corporate Office would see it. stir

I bet Academy's gross sales from guns and ammo is only a small portion of their gross receipts. Their gross sales from fishing gear, clothing, camping and other sports far exceed their guns and ammo sales. With gun owners being only about a third of the population they will cater to the non gun owners. I bet the soccer moms spend a lot more there than hunters and gun owners.

I'm pretty sure they did this after one of the other mass shootings, but they still sold the guns you just had to ask.

It's just a company looking at protecting their image for the sake of profits. Don't get upset because they think with their wallets. Companies have no hearts or morals... just the bottom line.

In response to their cowardice, Daniel Defense just terminated their contract with Academy to sell their weapons.

What is so wrong with pulling them from display for a few weeks. They still stock them and sell them.

it means they have capitulated to the liberal think, will not stand up for the 2nd when profit is on the line.

I will not do business with ANY company that acts like this.

Go ahead and try to whizz on their parade, the soccer moms and fisherman buy a lot more than than what they sell in weapons. Last time I was in Academy, there was one person looking at weapons, the checkout lines were 2 and 3 deep with mothers buying clothes and shoes.

God forbid their stock price falls a half a penny.

If Academy was still family owned, this wouldn't have happened.

It is cowardly of them. And by doing this they are adhering to the liberal propaganda that the firearm was the problem, instead of a person.

Look where the parent company of Academy is based: KKR & Co. L.P. is an American multinational private equity firm, specializing in leveraged buyouts, headquartered in New York City.

KKR doesn't care about anything other than their investors' bottom dollar. Is anyone honestly naive enough to think that just because they cater to a niche hunting and outdoors market that they truly care about it. Academy could be selling widgets to wankers and as long as the wanker's widgets are perceived favorable in the court of public opinion and don't get bad press to possibly impact a stock price they will be happy. The move of pulling ARs makes ignorant soccer moms feel good and encourages them to buy spoiled rotten Johnny Snowflake new soccer cleats.

Some corporation really cares about the values and traditions that you and I hold dear. bs

I was told by an insider at Academy that they were pressured from other manufacturers. PING and NIKE were mentioned
