You can shoot a jake if you want.

I would get camoed out and call on the edge of the wheat where they are moving through. I wouldn't try to stalk. It's almost impossible...especially in the open.

Very normal to be in wheat in the day eating. I assume they are easterns. Remember you must check them in since it is an eastern and bag limit is one gobbler:

My brother has a place in Rains Co in the Sabine bottoms, my stepfather has a tree farm in Franklin Co and we have some friends with quite a bit of land on the Red River near Clarksville. I inquired about opportunities in these areas and the feedback that I received was that there was not much opportunity in these areas and that I should go south & west of DFW instead. Since I have no experience hunting turkeys I just assumed that folks were trying to tell a beginner where I would have the best odds. After reading your post, I think I am going to throw my gun and camo in the van along with my fishing tackle when/if I head east this weekend. I am sure the odds are better south & west of DFW but I don't have a lease in these areas so I may as well camo up and learn how to use a box call. You know what hey say, "Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in awhile"

BTW...I got some good advice on guns, rounds and calls to use, I would forward the posts but I am not sure if it was more than a month ago but I am pretty sure it was on this thread.
