By hunting season I will have a 2nd blind on my property so I will have my dad hunting with me as well! I figured I would take one of my other rifles and throw one of my scopes on it for my dad to use. A good ol Remington .25-06 with a 24' barrel My Grandfather swore by that caliber!!!!! Now my question Kind of like my current blind set up around 115/150 yards he will be shooting up to Out of these two boxes of ammo Hornady American whitetail 117 grain And Hornady superformance 117grain Which would you use? If you have another pref please shoot! Haha I know American whitetail is tailored for deer however other folks have said the superformance Just curious what y'all think Thanks

The obvious answer is which ever shoots best but I will go a step farther and say I would go with the American Whitetail. The Superperformance stuff is comparable to the old Light Magnum stuff they produced several years ago and accuracy was a issue for a lot of people I know including myself.

I haven't shot factory ammo in my 25-06 for many years. I handload Barnes 100 grain TSX bullets. They may be the finest and most effective .25 caliber bullets ever made. Nothing within 300 yards is safe. My gun shoots 100 grain bullets much better than 115 grain bullets.
I don't know if any company offers them as loaded ammo. But if someone does I don't think you could go wrong with them.

I've used the Am. Whitetail in my Savage 25-06 the last 2 years. A hunting partner on the lease uses the Superformance out of a different model Savage. I felt the Whitetail shot best out of mine while he felt the Superformance did best out of his. We've each taken 6 or 7 deer over that time. Our distances are from 95-180 yards.
So my advice - shoot them both and see what the rifle likes. Both will take down a central Texas whitetail.

85gr ttx bullets are sweet factory loads for that gun.. Id use 95-115 gr Rem corelock ammo cuz it kills deer well and is cheap

American Whitetail or Core Lockt. Seen both do great job on deer, ibex, and aoudad.

No need for superformance with the 25/06. It provides super performance with standard ammo.

Nosler acubond. I think that bullets on the small side for ballistic tips. I'd rather have it penetrate.

But they are pricey.. Same in my .270 the 110ttsx are by fare my favorite but my wallet says 130gr cl lol

I switched to Superformance in our .243 and .308 when the Winchester Ballistic Silvertips got hard to find. Accuracy has been good but I'm not positive that I like the bullet results. I would lean towards the AW first unless the Superformance shoots much better.

Also I've never had a deer run after being hit with the Funny they claim the ballistic tip is the answer to killing game! I understand that but they don't expand enough, especially at 100yards or less on small Texas whitetail. I've seen way to many exit holes the size of a dime that don't cause much internal damage leading to tracking expeditions. While they may be great on bigger deer or if you shoot through bone, I don't think they are ideal for Texas whitetail

I will say that my rifle likes the Hornaday SST best. Between my son and I, we have taken several deer with this bullet and have yet to have it fail. I did try the soft point and even federal fusion brand, but my rifle just shoots lasers with the SSTs.
What I have seen several times is the bullet draw blood and fur on a coyote and not drop them. I know coyotes are tough suckers. We haven't lost a deer with the bullet yet.

If anything I could see that they might expand TOO easily, and peel back on themselves far enough that they don't have a larger surface area to create a large exit wound. The physics don't add up--I know bullets do weird things, but just seems odd.

I don't care for ballistic tip ammo.
I love innerlock bullets.
I'm gonna shoot both through the gun.
American whitetail and sst and see which works the best.

I've been around other people who have a few other ballistic tips and haven't seen any I was impressed with

I use Federal Premium Sierra Gameking BTSP 117 grain in my Rem. 700 classic 25-06 with solid performance out to 300 yards on whitetail. Very consistent and tight grouping out of my gun.

I don't shoot near as much as I should,, but I did shoot some of the American whitetail 117gr interlock out of my new xbolt and was happy with the results. I had decent group working on the left. Pic is sideways for some reason. 100yrds

I used to shoot Hornady 117gr SUPERPERFORMANCE, but switched to the SST two years ago - mainly because I couldn't find the SP for a while. I found that the SST was more accurate thru my 25-06. But, I also stay with my "go-to" rifle which is a .270 and I shoot SST thru it, too.
I've been shooting Hornady ever since they were originally FRONTIER. I've tried other ammo, but keep coming back to the Hornady brand - even for my 50 cal muzzy!
