Great cartridge. About as good as it gets, IMO, for Texas deer hunting. Hits like a 270, recoils like a 243 (well, almost ). Only problems are there aren't too many rifles being manufactured, and most of the few factory ammo offerings are very underloaded. But if you have a rifle and are a handloader, you're all set!

Have it Re-chambered into the ACK IMP and build some hand loads and you will be rocking
Awesome round. Have a Ruger 77 Tang Safety that I made to an ACK IMP. Love it!

yeah. right now i am shooting hornady 117gr BTSP interlocks. it gives a muzzle velocity of 2,780 FPS. they are not very flat shooting bullets but i rarely shoot at anything over 100yrds anyway.

+1, I was very disappointed when I could no longer find any of the 100gr silvertips.

In that case, I would bet that the standard 257 factory loads would work just fine.

My 257 Roberts is an older model 98 german style hogbacked stocked sporter, butterknife bolt handle, double set trigger w/ a redfield peep sight. Its finish is a little rough--ok with me . My gunsmith looked it over, and suggested that I do not shoot any +P loads in it. So, I bought 4 boxes of old production ammo on Gunbroker, and it shoots great. I shot it about 10 times for practice before I hunted with it. Shot a 100 lb. hog at 30 yards with old production 120 grain Remington soft points. Hit her in the neck, dropped her where she stood. I always have it with me when I'm on the farm, ready for the next piggy to shoot.

I had a BOB built on a rem 700 action with a shilling #5 barrel for my 13 yr old girl in 07 by TIP BURNS , this gun shoots better than some of my high end guns at 100 yrds. loves 117gn round nose handloads !

No, but if the smith cuts the chamber right you can shoot factory 257 ammo in an AI chamber. You will lose velocity, however.
But I'd say if you are not a reloader, an AI would not be a good idea.

That is the truth! When blowing out brass for my AI, I can shoot sub 1" groups, they are just about 1 1/4" lower than the AI hand loads. But they would work in a pinch.
