I just thought it would be an informative thread for any forum members that were buying or selling. I was wanting to watch the market to see what certain animals are bringing at some of the smaller auctions too. I am interested in Axis, Fallow, blackbuck, all rams, kind of the run of the mill type exotics. But I think it would be nice to know what all stocker animals are going for.

The sale prices at the auctions go up and down, just depends on who's buying and how many animals are there.

Terry Caffey and his son are awesome to deal with never had a problem with them.
There is also a private video auction held by the EWA coming up in March, Jason. If you like I'll be glad to pass on what some of the stuff sells there. YO is having its first sale of the year as well.

Kifaru is this Saturday, no website, they are located 15 miles south of Lampasas, Texas on Highway 183.
I have been tracking prices there for two-years and on any given sale one species versus another will be up or down. It all depends on what is in demand. Last sale Blackbuck females went for $350, Sika females $150, Axis females $250, Aooudad females $350. They sold about 30 male blackbucks and a price was established between $700 and 800. Red deer cows go for about $275 with crowned males at $2,000.
I have seen Red Lerchwe for $1,750, Eland for $1,000, Sable for $5,000.
The primary issue I have with auctions is the health of the animal. I have seen scoured and stressed animals. It is always best to buy from individuals who stand behind the animal. The down side is you pay a little more to do so.
I have known people to buy from the sales and have half the heard die in a week. I myself bought six axis does for $200 each, all lived but two turned out to be males. Same thing happened with Red Deer cows (bought two and one is a male). Sometimes you get lucky.

Oh - you are so right about that. If I ever buy at an auction again (something I have no plans to do)that animal would be quarantined from the rest for a good 30 days. In the past I've bought at the local sale barn-you know where they are just giving away a nice young ram. After we got him home, I start thinking how stupid that was -risk 2.5 years of breeding over a $30 ram. Of course the idea of a good deal is the reason many buyers still go to auction instead of calling a known breeder. They know what I want for my ram, but there is always the chance they can get it cheaper.

When we buy at sales like Kifaru and Raz, our animals are given shots and vaccinated before they leave the trailer and about once a week for the next month for worms.

Huntsville has a great sale, they are great people to deal with and move the animals through the ring fast. Their website is huntsvillelivestock.com I believe.

Isn't Huntsville the sale that has a minimun horn length?
Curtis - I just noticed your location - I'm headed to Halletsville next week to visit family.

So true, just like roping steers... no ropers....they are cheap....4 ropers they will make number one 5 wieght calves look cheap.
