I've seen multiple barrels blow up from an obstruction plus I hate to worry about moisture getting in the barrel when it's raining or snowing. Do any of yall tape your barrel with electric tape and if so do you shoot through it. And if so is there any change in point of impact or problems?

I have for years. I use the blue painters tape on my rifles and ML. No issues shooting with it on.

If raining I keep muzzle down. Never taped the end. That is the perfect way to get mud in the end of the barrel.

It's a good question. I used to be hesitant to do it but now I do. Everyone I have heard test it says POI is not affected.

Electrical tape on the barrel if raining. The air being compressed against it by the bullet moving down the barrel blows it out of the way before the bullet hits it. After reading that trick years ago tried it at the range before using the tape hunting.

I even put tape on the end of my barrel when hunting in West Texas with all the wind and dust in years when it is really bad. I have gotten mud in the end of my barrel from just setting the rifle beside me in my truck with the barrel on the floorboard. It was raining and in/out of the truck I kept tracking in mud. Luckily I checked it that one day.

That's what I thought. I've always pulled it off prior to shooting but you never know when your going to have to shoot without time to pull it off.

I keep blue tape on the end of my barrel 24/7. If it's not in the field, I still want to keep dust out of it. If I'm out hunting, I want to keep dust or water out of it.
When you fire your rifle, the air in front of the bullet blows out the tape before the bullet hits it. There is zero chance that tape will affect accuracy!!!!

No tape on it. I either got it walking around carrying the barrel down like young and dumb folks do in the rain or got it from resting on the muddy floorboard of my truck. Either way young and dumb became a believer in tape on the end of a barrel that day during deer season.

I heard a story of guy that was about 12-13 at the time and was out with his little brother "hunting" anything that moved with a cheap single shot .410 when somehow they got mud in the end of the barrel....they decided to try to shoot it out and ended up being very thankful that the New England Arms Co. didn't have strict standards on their materials. dads don't like being handed a gun with a mushroomed barrel, I promise.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Im pretty picky about where and how I put my guns. I don't put them muzzle down in a pickup either.
For you tapers, do you carry the roll of tape with you to retape after the first shot?

I actually don't tape when deer hunting, just mountain hunting. I keep a small amount of electrical and duct tape (for other purposes) wrapped around a Bic lighter.

I ziptie tags but usually have tape in the truck.
In rain I cary the gun in my hand under the action barrel forward with slight down angle. I don't use scope caps either and for the most part this keeps water out of the bore and scope lens also.
If im stand hunting ill leave it sacked till I get on stand.

duct or electrical tape if raining or snowing and I will be out moving in it. This past year in CO on the DIY elk hunt, we were out from before daylight until midday minimum, rain, sleet, snow mix covering many miles on foot. Your arm would be give out if you carried the rifle by hand all day, shoulders give out too even with a sling. This was one of the first times I had used tape and was darn glad I did.

On the Co DIY elk trip last year we started out with duct tape but after it got wet, it was pretty useless. I took one of my rubber gloves and cut the finger out to slip over the end of the barrel. It worked pretty well for the rest of the trip.
