Browning A-bolt Composite Stalker in .270 Win, topped with a Leupold VX-3 6.5-18x40 or my Weatherby Mark V .257 Wby Mag with VX-3 6.5-18x40. Both shoot SubMOA and I have every confidence in stretching them out to 500 yards.
My cousin, however, has a saying, "One world, one rifle". His choice is an old Winchester M70 in .375 H&H Mag. He's not right in the head.

All round go to would have to be my Weatherby Vanguard .270 with the Nikon Monarch 3x9.

I've been thinking on this for a couple of days, and still don't know if I have my head around it.
My first instinct would be M&P 10 with a SWFA 3-9.
Then again, I like my lefty bolt action Savage 11 in .308 with a Vortex 4-16
On the other hand, my Rossi M92 357 is fast handling, accurate, and good for anything within 100 yds.
I think my "next" rifle might be the one. Perhaps a Ruger GS scout lefty with 18" barrel. Iron sights for most things and a scout scope with LaRue QD mount for extended range.

Hard to go wrong with a good 30-06 for an all around rifle....but I end up grabbing my Tikka T3 270 wsm in a Bell and Carlson stock, most of the time. Under 8 lbs scoped and loaded. 140 gr Accubond at 3200 fps makes things dead.....real quick!

So far some of the best hunting rifles I have seen ANYWHERE are on this thread! Reading this makes me want to go out and buy something! Not my "go to" but here is another good one. Marlin .308 Express.

How tight does that lever gun shoot? Those have intrigued me since they came out.

Fireman, it shoots quite well for a lever, I was able to keep a shot group of five in 2.5" at 100 yds. from the bench. What I like the most about it is fast sight picture for a quick shot.

I'm surprised so many of y'all consider the .300 wm and wsm to be all around rifles. For me, it's the Remington 700 .308. Adequate round for pigs, whitetail, elk, sheep, could be used for moose if you had to. Ammo is cheap enough to use it as a varmint gun and plinking rifle.

Tff, the .308 is a proven very good cal. for many applications. Not every man's favorite but you are certainly not alone on this thread.

Probably killed the most with my Wilson Combat 6.8 over the last 6-7 years over the other rifles. It just works and is compact and light.

Gotta tip your hat to the ol 257 Bob and a ruger #1. Just a classy rifle.

Very nice rifle DH3. I have a very special affinity for the .257 Roberts. I killed my first deer, a mule deer buck, with a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in .257 Roberts with a Weaver fixed 4X. That rifle spent more hours in a saddle scabbard than most men spend in the saddle and never failed.

Thanks red cloud its the 257 bob with the ackley improved shoulder. Im pushing the 90gr sierra gameking hp. The ai version allows me to run at factory 25-06 velocities with no pressure issues. I love the 257 wby, but i just dont shoot magnums that well unless it has a brake and im not a fan of brakes. My mark V in .257 kicks about like a .270. Easy to shoot

Remington 700 XCR 30.06. I know it's dead on all the time and will take down what I shoot at.
