I am new to varmint hunting and I called in a coyote and it started barking. Did it bark because I was busted? I'm pretty sure it saw me but not sure. I was using a motion decoy and my caller set up in a small meadow surrounded by heavy trees and brush.

Yeah that's what I thought that coyote came in stealthing and I didn't see him unitl he barked. Oh well back to the drawing board. Another question how long between hunts should you wait? I hunt a 53 acre place so there is not much area to move around in. I usualy go each weekend is a week enough?

I would say how often you go has a lot to do with how successful you are. If you see critters and get them killed then once a week is fine, but if you see critters and they get away you have educated them and if you keep it up they will start to ignore your calling. You also have to take into consideration that sometimes when you are there they are not so if you don't see something every time this may be part of the problem. I have a less than 20 acre place that I call a few times a month but I do a pretty good job of getting them killed so they don't get away educated. Just something to think on. My .02

I hate that barking when I just pull up at night and start to get in the back of the truck. If I hear dogs barking like that I just put up and leave. No sense in calling, every coyote within earshot (which is really damn far for a coyote) will know something is amiss.

Yeah I know what you mean I've got one on my 10 acres that has busted me three times. But I got his little arse Saturday night . He finally barked at me from behind a mesquite tree instead of a Cedar big mistake. BANG FLOP no more busting me and letting the world know about it.
