TPWD had/has been shooting hogs with helicopters there recently, so I assume it could have an impact on the hunting. Or may not matter by then. Don't know.

I don't think erradication by helicopter would even make a dent in the populataion there at Richland Creek.
I grew up hunting Richland Creek and Gus Engeling and there are plenty of hogs left I can assure you. Like John implied, they'll be laying low, so I think you'll have much better luck with still hunting vs. stand hunting. My suggestion is to slowly and quietly walk the edges of the thick stuff (the thicker the better) and listen for them. Sooner or later, you'll hear one squeel, etc. Once you have 'em pin-pointed, move in for the kill.

With the Annual Public Hunting Permit (APH) $48 -

- Archery and Muzzleloader Only Season - March 1-31
- General Season - April 1-30, all legal means allowed.

No dogs allowed during either time period.

I have worked the past two summers at RC and Gus Engeling and from experience I can tell you the best place to shoot hogs at RC is on the south side of it. I can't tell you how many hogs I have shot just walking slowly along the edge of the right of ways there. Also, I know right now that TPWD doesn't have the money to use a helicopter to shoot hogs, I talked to the guys from RC last week.

cfarr1987,
The ones shooting the hogs were taking samples from them.
It was not necessarily related to eradication. There were dead hogs on the place from it in Feb. So it was probably a USDA project like what was done on Granger WMA last year. This was the North unit as the South was closed to access during that time.

I thought about that right after I posted because I knew there was a high dollar study going on. I think they were looking for AI

Looks like the Texas Department of Agriculture is well funded for Feral Hog control.

I also read where Texas A&M was working on an oral hog contraceptive that should be ready in a couple years.

See many or was this the only one? How did look fat-wise?

Lots of fat, I didn't see her litter until she went down. There was two other ones with her about the same size (about 150#).

I talked to one of the guys that work the water sructures at Richland and he said those guys came in baited the roads and hunted with night vision several months ago. I beleive it, we were down there on April 2 and we saw about 10-15 dead hogs laying on the side of the levies. This was on the north side. We killed 6 hogs that day, they won't be able to put a dent in the hog population down there.
