FYI I picked my meat up yesterday at Hiblers. I turned it in opening morning. When I picked it up I asked why they hadn't called and was told they don't call people when there meat is done. So I had been waiting on them to call and finally called to check on it. Just thought others might want to know this.

Don't understand why they wouldn't call you. I would have a problem with that, not good customer service at all. I've had the same experience when I used to use processors. I'm guessing that they get real busy obviously, but they don't have someone there in charge that gives direction to call your customer when their product is ready. Shouldn't be hard, hey we're done with customer #...call them please it's ready for pick up....same thing with a few taxidermists. I dunno why they can't call, I have to. "Oh yeh, we finished it last month".

I was pretty surprised myself. If they are going to do that they should tell people when they drop there deer off. In my opinion they kind of have the market cornered in that area so might be why customer service suffers. We cooked up our first batch of steaks last night and the meat was good and well packaged. I would rather have them do a good job on the meat than provide good customer service. Would really bite if they had great customer service and did a poor job on the meat!
I have had domestic animals processed there before and they do call when they are ready.

They were great in the early 90's and then I believe it changed hands. Used them a few more times in late 90's but they were never the same. Started processing my own.

Good to know, they always seemed pretty busy early in the season so they must not be terrible. How is the meat?

I haven't been happy with them the last couple of times I used them. I dropped off some late season management deer a couple years ago and ended up having to repackage a lot of the meat because it wasn't sealed.
When I do pay someone to process one I bring it to D&B now. I feel like I get more meat back too. They are real nice people to boot.

used then when we hunted in Richland Springs right up till they misplaced my sons first buck head, after i expressed the importance of them finding that head, they found it and gave me the box of meat and a box of some one else's breakfast sausage. never went there again,
BTW if they shorted you 30# of sausage, it was great!

Is there another processor in San Saba or do you have to go to Hamilton? What is a good one in the area?

All you have to do is follow 16 south and they are on the south end of Cherokee. If you go by on a weekend you can stop in at South Side BBQ next door for some great food.
