The homemade callers are interesting. If you keep it simple it will give you pretty good bang for your dollar. But be careful if you start to do some of the other modifications like remote control speakers etc. Any plans for the remote upgrades you are better of to save your money and buy a commercial unit.

dogcatcher do you have a ecaller or just use your calls
Not sure if I'd call you a machine, but you are definitely a tool.

i think the homemade work JUST fine!
you can even record mouth calling and play it, works great for woodpecker n distress!

I am cheap, I just use my own calls, no batteries needed. I get a lot of calling practice as I fine tune the one we make. I have hunted with people that have the electronics, they have their place, but are not the perfect solution. You really need a wide variety of calls to keep from educating the prey. The better your calling arsenal the better your chances.
