I have an American Hunter Feeder and the motor seems to be freaking out. The coons and squirrels have also chewed it up to peices so it needs to be replaced.
I want to get a different one to replace it. Any suggestions on something for a good price? I would prefer digital but don't really care, price and dependability are much more important.
I won't be buying another American hunter.
How are On Time motors?

I have had good luck with the cheap remington feeders from academy. I have 3 that have been running for 3 years with no problems.

I agree with Helomech on the Remington timers. We replaced the timers on all 8 of our feeders 3 years ago with the Remingtons and have had no problems. They are digital like you want and easy to use.

Dave, How are the critters getting to your wiring. Remington is just a name put on a popular timer and yes the digital is a good unit. I have a friend who has been using one like it (different name) for the years now. The nice things is his monitors battery level, 6 feed times, different run times at each feeding, allows for hi/med/lo speeds, and can be used on 6 or 12 volt systems. Try mounting your solar panel directly to your timer flat without the use of the offset plate for the solar panel so the critters don't have anything to grab hold of.

On Time motors/timers are great. Metal case so you don't have to worry about coons. A set of batteries (AA's) last all year, probably more, but we change them out once a year anyway. We have four with the digital timer. Been using them for four years now with no problems. http://www.ontimegamefeeders.com/

texas hunter feeders are the best in my opinion.there are easy to set.mine is roughy 10 years and change the battery twice.BJ

Thanks guys, I'll check them both out.
The cows got knocked down my feeder last year and the squirrels and coons pretty much chewed up the plastic around the varmit gaurds before I got back to it. I tried fixing it a few times but could never get it to back to 100%after that.
The timer didn't keep that good of time to begin with(analog). I like the idea about mounting the solar panel and wires directly to the motor. My other feeder is that way and I really like it.
These Remington feeders, are they the all metal ones at Academy. I've been looking at those because I liked the features but didn't know much about their quality.

I use the Remington feeders also, I have both the Quartz model and the digital timer. They both work GREAT and there dirt cheap for what all is included.
I wouldnt get the photocell model, I just havent had good consistent feeding with photocell type feeders.

Your welcome, those have the digital timer BTW. Those lights are the cheapest ones I could find, and do not do a lot to help. They do let you see something under the feeder, but not great. I think some more expensive ones might be better. I paid 30 bucks for 12 of those. I may take them apart to see if I can put better LED's in them. I rather the solar motion lights that I have.

I like the all seasons timers. i have one in my back yard going on 5 years now and haven't done anything but change batteries every so often. They also let you feed 6 times a day. You can hook either 6 or 12 volt which ever u have. You can look on Allseasons.com

ive had good luck with the remington, great for 100 bucks, i would only get the digital timer though, and buy a solar panel right away for 20 bucks.

I will agree that the plastic AH timers are not very good BUT the other ones they make have been great for us. Nothing to chew on and a built in solar panel. Havent replaced batteries in the 5 that we have in a long time. They have a digital timer and can feed up to 16 times a day if you want and the time set for feed duration is digital so you can make it exactly how long you want it. I have had the same experience. They are built with thicker metal and the top is not so large in diameter or perimeter that it holds a lot of corn. Plus they are well under a hundred dollars.

I also like the Texas Hunter feeder timers. I've had one for about four years and just bought another this past season. They are great. Great service from the guys at the store in San Antonio, also.
