How good is the wolf 223 ammo. I'm looking at buying some but just wanted to see how good it is. Thanks

I've never shot the Wolf .223, but have burned through quite of few rounds in 7.62x39mm with no problems. I found the ammo to be fairly accurate with open sights at 100 yds.

I've shot several boxes 55gr through saiga .223's (own 2 of them) worth the price, never had any problems with them.

Anyone shot anything other than the 55grain. I see some Wolf in 68 grain and I think I saw some in 75 grain. Thanks

you will get as many answers as people with guns. buy a couple of boxes and see how they work for you. Wolf is about the cheapest so it isn't a lot of risk, cost wise. Ammo generally works ok, It isn't federal, remington, lake city, etc but you aren't paying the same either.

Wolf .223 ammo is decent albeit a bit underpowered. It is fairly accurate. It wont cycle well in some AR rifles do to being a little underpowered. I shoot the soft points out of my Son's NEF handi rifle it works well in it.

My used Stag eats it just fine, but I dont plan on using it in my newest AR.
I do have quite a bit of it in .223 and 7.62x39 in case the ammo becomes unavailable
too many guns - too little time

What does the steel case do to the chamber of an AR??

Due to copyright laws, I won't cut and paste but look in wikipedia for info on steel cased ammo.

The steel is very soft, almost brass like.
The one thing everyone in the world can agree on is it is shoots freaking dirty. Especially the .308 Wolf.
Other than that, wolf has been argued on the net since the internet was invented (thanks Al Gore). Up to you to decide if you want to use it.
If you look at my website you can probably tell I shoot frequently with a lot of shooters. I have never seen a weapon ruined from using Wolf. Malfunctions-yes. But, that doesn't mean the next person to post isn't going to cite the thousands of rifles he has seen destroyed from it either.
Or, load your own for cheaper.

My concern is not steel cases, but the copper washed (Wolf and Barnaul call it "bi-metal") steel jacketed bullets. I believe when copper prices went through the roof (maybe before), the Ruskies went to steel jackets, which I'm not inclined to send down my AR bore. Maybe the chrome-lined barrels can handle it (mine aren't), but I'll stick to "real" copper bullets. Use a magnet to see what yours is like...

I received a law enforcement bulletin to not use it even for practice. Could cause fouling, jams and malfunctions. not worth it to save $1

No problems with Wolf ammo here...7.62X39 or .223...or 5.56 All shot well in my rifles.
Now Silver Bear......that's another story. Failures to feed, failures to extract. I had one round stick so firmly in my chamber that I had to take my rifle to a gunsmith to get it knocked out.
I'll still shoot it in a bolt action, but just for basic sighting in. I won't shoot that stuff in my AR or Sig at all anymore.

A copper clad (not just copper washed) bullet will still respond to a magnet if it has a steel core.

Speaking of Wolf, the Gander Mtn on 290 in Houston has about 10,000 rounds sitting in the floor for $5.99/box.

My Model 1 eats it like candy. Bump firing 40 round mags at approx 600 rpm, I have never had a failure. Of the 5,000+ rounds of it I've fired, I've had 2 or 3 fail to feed but that's it. I clean my rifle after every outing so a little crud doesn't bother me.
