We have a about 60 acres in east Texas. There is a year round deep creek that runs right thru the middle of it. The creek is pretty deep so hogs and deer can travel thru the creek. I put a feeder close to the creek and no deer or hogs hit it. I have only seen one big boar on the game cameras. He hardly ever shows up two nights in a row. He may show up one night then maybe three nights later, then he is gone for weeks. How many of you guys have or hunt on small tracts like this that do not have hogs? If so do you have any recommendations so I can attract more hogs? Thanks!

It sounds like you put up a feeder where you thought the animals should be without actually looking at where the animals are. Animals may or may not travel the creek even though they can. I have a similar feature on my property and it is not the preferred travel route through the property.
Set up your feeder by a game trail that you can tell is well used and if you have a game trail crossroad, put it there.
A feeder on the edge of a clearing or middle of a clearing will be found quicker than a feeder hidden in the woods, often times.
You can try special concoctions, recipes, or specialty attractant foods that can be pretty pricy, but plain old corn works fine. If all the other stuff worked like magic, then we would all use it.
Right now, you have the problem of acorns, pecans, etc. that are falling. I have ZERO hog traffic at my feeders right now, and greatly reduced deer traffic. Acorns and pecans are preferred over corn.

On our place, the pigs come and go. Three years ago I had what looked like a zillion pigs. Last two years I had just a few boars. This year the pigs are back. Why? I have no idea. For what it's worth, I feed corn year round.
When we first bought our place, I put out feeders in three places. For quite a long time the corn just piled up under the feeders, till it was quite a big pile. Then one day a month or two later, all the corn was gone and I've had deer and pigs most of the years since.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

you are right, and we have lots of acorns. I moved the feeder of an electric easement and a bunch of deer hit it and one lone boar. Maybe with year round killing the hog numbers are down in general. Or maybe we killed most of them or they just don't prefer our place for some reason??

Area have my set up is bout same as you discribed... Have had food plot next ta low spot in creek, before heard of cams being used, observing trail, signs & such, old school ... My cams are set up more cause enjoy watchen wildlife, & for when hogs show up... Used ta use PVC corn feeders & the deer pipe, same as hog pipes... Got spinner feeder, sound of it going off, twas ta right of food plot edge of trees... Prefur sound of spinner over smell & plain old corn ... Only one year have their been 9-12 hogs at time showing up... Their could be plenty of reasons hogs not showing up on your place... Biggest could be the 24-7-365 hunting pressure ... Like with deer, some area's will hold bigger populations of wildlife than others... Walk creek & look for sign, & as DNS said, look were trails cross... Best Wishes...

I hunt a 65 acre piece of property locally and will tell you pigs come and go. I throw corn year around and watch the camera regularly to determine when to hunt. I can be frustrating, but stick with it I'm sure they'll show up. When I first started I spread a ton of corn around the property leading back to the feeder and it didn't take long for the pigs to show up.

My food plot feeders set up in low spot were deer & hogs cross, so easy ta find.. it has bend up stream were hogs have mud hole & further up ya go banks get steeper... Put the deer pipe in, actualy had 1inch holes & no chain like the hog pipes... They have ta find the pig pipe first... Tis were like the spinner better, they can hear that from distance, then find pig pipe... Had hogs tear up area on other side of creek bout 10-15 yrds from a ladder stand.. Poured some store bought hog wild were they tore up ground... Hogs never came back... It could be they moved on & also was getting pic's of nieghbors dogs on cam's... If hogs find the pig pipe, works great... They show up on cam's here, i spread bout icecream pale of corn out a day... Took last hog that way.. Made a drip with the Roasted Corn Freaks gel, comes in gal jug.. took SunnyD container, drill small hole in bottom, it has a light smell, so far no results...

When I first got my lease I was only seeing a few hogs but now I have them every night. I think they are very very nomadic and like geese some stay around and some roam in and out. I would try the feeder in a central location maybe more in the open. My lease is only about 100 acre that we hunt or holds animals

I have a place like you are describing. The hogs will come and go. They have disappeared for now on my place they usually make there rounds in about a month. We just use a feeder.

Drive the fence line. You will see where they are crossing the fence, usually a low spot in the fence. Then follow their trails. Gives you a good idea where they are going and where to setup a feeder. It takes a little while to become part of their regular feeding schedule. And like mentioned, it's acorn and pecan season.

Consider yourself lucky, you really don't want hogs on your property, they will tear up what they don't crap on..... just my .02, have seen the damage they can inflict, want no part of it or them.....

how does the PVC hog pipe work for you? the ones that the hogs push in a cirlce and it lets corn out? They work good but you have to fill them regularly because the hogs will empty one in a night. I use a plastic 55gal barrel. Drill a hole at the top and put an eyelet in with the biggest washers you can find. Hook about 10ft of a cheap chain one loop the other end to a T post. Drill a 4- 3/4 inch holes in the sides. 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom on opposite sides. When you roll it, it literally only drops out 2-4 cornels of corn. It will last a lot longer. I've had them bend the T post over and roll the barrel several hundred yards away in heavy brush. Lol.

If u don't have hogs consider yourself lucky. Hogs are a nuisance and tear up alot of stuff. Plus keep deer run off from the feeders.

Did the creek overflow this past year? If so, sometimes it takes time for the deer/hogs animals in general, to repopulate the area.

CRanderson, same as me. Before the major flood in May that we had, we hadnt seen a hog in years, but since then, the game cameras are showing them every where and a lot of them.

Wish i had problems like that... every one has thar own opinions.... i know, i know, as pappy says: mine stinks... i eats lots of beans... i'd have friends on this forum ta hunt with... Just yesterday, twas a mix-up at store, credit card, didn't go threw... Had found some bacon at cheap price ta go with me beans.. Had ta apolagies, my spair doe was at house, had put $20.00 on Walmart card cause gas tank empty... Got unlucky on 8-18 & ain't seen lucky since... Can't believe ya can't find any hunters on this forum ta help out with hog problems... have gun will travel ... just don't have gas... if only they'd let ya trap, some great threads on forum lately, ya could sell ta HF hog out fits & they could make some bucks, go inta share cropping... Yagh, its tough on us middle class so i've been told, just think how tough the ones with less have it... It will change your oinions on things... i could swap pork, for the milk, bread, bacon for me beans, times tis tough... As pappy once said: rich get richer & pour get what's left over .. Best wishes on your hog problems, stay on em 24-7-365 ya can make a differents, nothing wrong with asking fellow hunters for help dought you'll get laughed at & made fun of...
