If you want something different but awesome take a look at the 6.5 SLR...Basically takes all the best characteristics from 6.5 creed, 260, and 6.5x47 and combines them into one cartridge. Really a cool cartridge because you can use multiple different cases to form brass and it can be done by simply FL resizing the case. A friend had one built and it sure is a shooter.

Never read up on that round before.... I like the specs on that for sure. Brass life should be good as well with Winchester brass and a 30 degree shoulder. Good speed as well.... 142 gr at 2900 fps is good stuff.

Todd was the first guy I ever saw running one. If my 6.5 Creedmoor brass is all ruined by the time the barrel is, I may switch over. Course barrel life has to be shorter pushing a 140 gr that hard. So I may just stay married to the 6.5 Creedmoor. I'd end up holding too much wind with the SLR grin

It is a pretty impressive round. I'm really curious to see what his barrel life will be. He was shooting under 2" consistently at 500 yds and bugholes at 100. If the barrel life isn't terrible I will probably have one in a few years.

Well guys, I called up a gunsmith I've used before just to see what he had on hand and turns out he had a 6.5x284 already built. I worked a deal with him to trade a .257 that I just haven't used much recently. I figured I can get another .257 in the future. After making a pitch to the wife, she gave me the green light. I'll probably pic it up on thurs! Now to pair it with some good glass to make it my first 1000 yd worthy rifle!! I'm pumped! I'll post pics once I pick it up.

up

Not the longest barrel life round but can sure be accurate and a very good hunting round. Have a 6.5-284 in a Cooper M52 and is one of the most accurate rifles I own.

Ok I have 2 suggestions.... first of is look into 6.5-300,140grain bullet going 3300+... will hut a hurt on any critter or steel.

http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/gun-shots/first-look-new-65-300-weatherby-magnum-cartridge

the other... cause I still want chad or somebody to build it so I'll keep bringing it up... and You need a really big gun...

Is 338-408, that round just seems COOL!...

Sombody smells like fried borritos...
