What is everyones "routine" when you decide you're going to take an animal? How do you pick your target? Heart shot or lung shot?
For me, I always draw back, aim at the knee, raise straight up to about 1/3 up the chest, move about two inches behind the shoulder, take a deep breath and let her rip. I always go for a lung shot. I know there are lots of guys that like to take heart shots but I just don't trust myself with that small of a target. What's y'all's opinion on this?
By the way... Next weekend is the time!! Good luck fellas!!

For me it all depends on the situation.
I prefer the lung shot too because there is less room for error becasue it is a bigger target but if I have a deer within 20 yars, Im gonna rip that heart in 2.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

I line up my pin about 2 inches up and 2 inches back from where the leg meets the body. Then I spend the next 2 hours looking for the arrow cuz I missed again....

It all depends. How far is your target? How fast is your bow? I am set up from my feeder at 17 yards. My crossbow shoots 320 ft per sec. I am up about 12 feet off the ground. At that angle, I will hold right behind the shoulder, half way down. My arrow will go thru the deer before he can even react at that distance. If I had to shoot farther away, I may aim lower because the deer may jump when the arrow gets there. I won't start practicing with my crossbow until Wednesday before the opener. I'll be ready!

Similar to you hunter daddy... I'm in a 12Ft tripod 22 yards away from my feeder, 25 yards to the far side of my pen. My bow shoots around 300 FPS.

How much practice is required for crossbows?

The speed of sound is 1125 fps. So even at 17 yds they have plenty of time to react.

How much practice is required for crossbows? None if the scope is still sighted in. It's like shooting a gun. Lay it on the rest and squeeze the trigger.

Alway shoot for the lungs here. My main focus is twofold aim small and make sure I am not too high.

I hunt from the ground so I come straight up to the pocket right behind the "elbow". I really like to try to get the heart on a quartering away shot with the front leg forward. I subscribe to the aim small, miss small thought as well.

I try to imagine a fly landed on center mass, see it with both eyes, and try to spit the fly into thirds (3blade broadheads).

I really can't tell you what I do; I've been doing it so long it's just second nature, to me all depends on the shot that's presented to me and I shoot accordingly.
