I have to wear sunglasses into the woods, because the deer would recognize me, an just surrender with their hooves up.

Should be, IF the shot placement is good. Small bucks/does no problem, but bucks can be extremely tough and bleed very little typically. I seen more than a few big axis buck approach 300lbs.
It depends on your property. I have shot big axis bucks right through the heart, and STILL have them run over a 100-150 yards before falling over dead.
I have taken 6 or 7 axis bucks with my 25-06 and haven't lost one yet - although 2 of them required a second shot to pin the animal. Most of mine have been taken with my .308 - that being said, I had one hop a fence after a 60 yard sprint (not the best shot admittedly, but still a kill). So on that property, where I need to drop them QUICKLY and RIGHT THERE, I have been known to carry my .375 H&H

My dad, mom, and I have killed over 25 elk with that bullet and have never lost one.

Never shot an Axis with it but I have plenty of whitetails that know what the round can do.

Yes, if the bullet is placed in the vitals. No, if it is not and it's a big mature Axis buck. So don't rush the shot. Make sure you have a good rest.

My dad ran 80g softpoints on south Texas deer, it was a light switch. He would switch to 117s to go kill Elk

It is if you take head shots......but then again I've killed my biggest deer with a .17 Remington to the head.

ive killed a few axis does with a .22-250 It wouldn't be my first choice on a buck though
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Is a .223 enough gun for deer? That is all I ever use. About the 25-06. About a month ago I had a gentleman shoot an Axis with one. At the shot he took off. Did not show a lot of reaction. Looked for blood and found none. Finally found the deer about a 100 yds from the shot. Still no blood not even on the deer. Completely bled out inside himself without a drop on the outside.

Don, do you know what weight and type of bullet he was using? I only use 117 gr. bullets in my .25-06, just because that was the popular weight in the old cup-and-core days. If you go to 100 gr. cup-and-core, I wonder if a premium bullet is needed to get pass thrus.

Avoid heavy bone and shoot for the boiler room if you want pass thru's. Those smaller calibers will kill anything in Texas but only in the hands of experienced shooters. If you are not, then you are just rolling the dice!

I think it would be plenty gun to take an axis. I have taken several large bodied mule deer with a 25-06 using Hornady superformance 117 SST bullets and they performed very well. Only had one not pass through on an angling away shot and found bullet lodged under skin on the off shoulder side on a 200 yard shot.

A .25-06 is plenty of gun
I've seen deer hit with .300 mags that did not have pass thru's.
My neighbor has killed over 300 deer with a .25-06 and 117 grain Barnes bullets
Axis deer are tough but they are not invincible.
Sure a big buck can weigh 300 lbs but so can a big whitetail or mule deer
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
