Anyone know how long it typically takes for second draw to happen? Have status of pending second draw for doe/spike at Colorado Bend. Thanks in advance And what in the world does pending second draw mean? first timer here. Thx in advance!

If the winners don't pay their fee, a second draw is held. I think payment is due sept 29.

I applied 14 preference points to 5 different gun deer antlerless hunts and still didn't draw a single hunt. I have one heck of a streak in that category. Oh well. Still a lot of drawings to go. in the same boat.. I got drawn this year on the category I have the least amount of points and put someone with low points on and it dropped my average, yet I got drawn.. but the 14yrs worth have points for gun deer is still illusive. ugh

So far i've drawn for exotic at palo duro and antlerless at lake brownwood. I still have a few on second draw and some that haven't drawn yet. Looks like it's shaping up to be a good season.

So far I have struck out on everything but my nephew drew Mule deer antlerless @ Sierra Diablo so it is all worth it.

Jeez, are you guys entering just one hard to get spot? I have been drawn twice this year so far, GDA @ hill country SNA and GDE at Colorado Bend annex. I think I had 2 points in GDA and I was drawn GDE @ pedernales falls annex last year, so I had no points.

I'm going with the kiddo's to Chaparral WMA for antlerless/spike on Nov 21/22. Also got picked for Choke Canyon SP - North Shore Management Deer for Dec 8-10th. Still waiting on other hunts to be revealed!

I entered 13 drawings this year and struck out. 3 of those were youth drawings for my son, so I guess he's out of luck this year too.

Jhawkbear - If you haven't looked into it, check out the TYHP (Texas Youth Hunting Program) It is for kids under 17, the cost per hunt, if drawn is $150 and they have a high success rate. We did one last year, and had an absolute blast, and my son harvested his first two deer.

Thanks Mako. I have been looking at that. He's currently 8, and it looks like he needs to be 9 to participate in it. I have it set on my calendar to get him enrolled as soon as I can.

Got drawn for GDE at Pat Mayse. Never been up there, so that will be cool.

No you've been blessed, I had a friend last year who entered just about every area for the deer categories, he stacked up several hundred dollars in applications fees and didn't draw a single hunt, but he also had no loyalty points, could have spent that money on a nice guided hunt.

Since I already have places to deer hunt I usually put in for the areas that have the best chances at a trophy. So yeah I pick the harder draws to get.

Wow, I'll count my blessings! I do tend to apply for the "tougher" backpacking hunts, but that's what I enjoy. I spent maybe $30 in application fees.
"Entire Area; A hunt on this area will be a backpacking experience and it is suggested that only those with backpacking experience and in good physical condition participate.
There are no facilities on this side of the river. Hunters will need to use GPS devices to track their hunt location. Park radio will be provided for hunters to communicate with hunt personnel in emergency situations. Hunters will need to provide a canoe or flat-bottom boat to cross the river with all of their gear. Hunters will need to pack in all required food, water, camping and hunting supplies. Open fires are not allowed. "
Now that's hunting public land!

I got drawn for a Anterless/Spike hunt at Gus Engeling in December. Last year's success rate wasn't very high, but I will be out there to try and fill the freezer. Good Luck everyone!!

All of my Sept 11 drawings are done and nothing but loyalty points. Looks like standby city for me.

I sure can't complain about the system- in 3 years of entering, I drew nothing first year, got GDE Pedernales Falls last year, and this year drew GDA Hill country SNA and GDE Colorado Bend. I feel lucky, but also, I'm entering the backpack hunts that I think a bunch fewer people are entering, with lower success rates, but better odds of getting the hunt.
