I am wondering what I should be putting the wood stock on my silver reserve o/u. I always just wiped it off with the same diper I wipe the gun with and a friend told me the gun oil was not to good for the wood. I believe the wood is turkish walnut if that makes a difference.

I'm almost certain the answer will depend on the type of finish on the stock.

How long have you been using the "diaper method"? If it's been a few years and there is nothing wrong with the stock yet, you are probably OK. As long as the gun is dry when you store it, you should be good to go.
I have an 8 year old Beretta 391 and basically use the same method as you. Wipe on a light coat of gun oil on with an old tshirt. Wipe it off and put it in the case. Mine looks almost new and it gets hunted a lot.

Has a flat finish but is starting to gloss a little on the foregrip

I have been using the diaper for a couple of years, but this gun does not come out much its more of a cabinet queen.

I was thinking more on the lines of:
polyurethane shellac varnish linseed oil lacquer
Not sure which of these are used on gunstocks.

some finishes react differently to different products, you should be able to research your mfg. and get recommendations

I put oil on all my stocks, with an old t-shirt, then I wipe off, never had a problem.
Your words and how you use them will expose your character
