Dont waist the money on the over rated Glock. The XD is more accurate and has more safety devices than the glock. If you have kids you should not consider the Glock at all. I have owned both and got rid of my Glock and bought a XD to replace and I have never looked back

How is the Glock overated? Maybe tested and proven , but not overrated. You should'nt make your guns accesible to children in the first place. Safeties are stupid, why do people want a gun with 15 safeties to haggle with when its go time?

I have two responses to this statement:

1) Don't let your children play with your self defense weapon.

2) If your concern is the lack of external safeties on the Glock I would suggest that you:
A) Keep your finger off the trigger
B) Don't point the weapon at your kids
C) Get proper handgun training.

Keep your loaded defensive firearms away from your kids. If you have absolutely no control of your scene, maybe guns are just a bad idea for you. There are people with defective "between the ears" safety devices.

in addition the OP is considering the XDM not the XD. There is a significant price difference.

I love my Glock 27. It will eat any thing I buy, easy to clean (field strip) and very reliable. I like the sights better on the Glock too. There are a lot of indoor ranges around that rent hand guns, go buy a couple boxes of 9mm, .40S&W, and .45acp and rent a few guns. Then buy the one YOU like.

Oh… If you buy a glock 9mm you can drop in a .40S&W or .357sig barrel and shoot those too!

I own a Glock 22 and a Glock 34. I also own a Springfield XD40 Tactical and XD9 Subcompact. I like them all, but I give my nod to the XD. I think it is a better pistol. I like the way it takes down better, and I think that the grip safety is a very good style of safety. I also like that in the dark I can feel the XD and know that it is cocked and has a round chambered. The slide finish is probably better on the Glock, but overall I like my XD's. I would like to upgrade them both to the XDM's. You can't go wrong with either one!

I had a Glock and it is an outstanding weapon. the reason I went to an XD is one, the gun just fits my hand and points and shoots better, for me. The other is if you carry in deep concealment. If for some reason you have to pull the pistol quickly, I never quite was comfortable with just the trigger safety on the Glock. And I don't pull the weapon with my finger in the trigger guard, its just there is only one failsafe and during a high stress encounter I appreciate the extra safety. With the Springfield I have a second level of safety with the grip safety. As was stated above the Glock is the most popular with police depts but they carry for the most part in an outside the belt holster so no worries with blowing off certain parts of your anatomy due to trigger catching on something inside the pants or your finger accidently slipping into the trigger guard. However, there have been several police officers who have had accidental discharges with the Glock, but that would apply to any weapon. The gun is only as safe as the hand that is on it. The other thing as I have remembered since I first posted this is you are looking at the XDM, am assuming your not planning to carry concealed then. In that case its just a matter of personal preference and feel for the gun. I will echo the sentiments of many. Go out and rent both, shoot em, consider what your use is going to be and buy the right fit. I don't think you can go wrong with either as long as you fit the weapon to the task.

"accidental discharges" is impossible w/ a Glock. Maybe they accidentally pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't shoot itself. I dunno what it is w/ people and the XD grip safety. No gun is idiot proof. Glocks are tanks. My first was my was a 1st Gen G17 i bought for IDPA that i bought from another IDPA shooter that had it for years. I personally put over 20,000 rounds thru it no telling how many before me. And i don't recall it jamming...ever. We took it to madagorda one weekend in college and it shot under water fine (salt water). So my answer would be Glock.
Do this w/ an XD. Make sure you type up a letter asking SA to fix your gun because the mushroomed barrel makes it hard to cycle, oh and while it's there put a new finish on it because the original is coming off and rusting in places.

Well, here's a scenario for the grip safety.

You have a guy walking to you, and he means business. You yell back up affirmatively (sp?), and he keeps coming, so you start to pull your gun, but cant get it out of the holster as quick as you usually do. Before you can get a shot off he has grabbed your arm with the gun. So you're both wrestling around, and if you have the XD and you can keep your palm off the grip safety, he cant turn it back on you to shoot you. Just a thought. Also, Springfiels is coming out with an optional thumb safety.

Someone on here asked about my warranty statement. I highly doubt you'll need warranty with either gun, but thats not to say it wont happen. So I like the lifetime myself. This also makes me think a little, if Springfield has a lifetime warranty, they must really trust the product they produce right. I know G's are good guns, but why only a one year warranty, are they too arrogant as a company or what?

What if 20 ninja's in tin foil hats attacked at once with light sabers and tron frisbees?

The bottom line is reliability and training. If both pistols are equally reliable, pick one and keep your finger off the trigger. Train. Train formally. Shoot IDPA. If you can't keep you finger off the trigger, you will find yourself telling someone else about how "it just went off for no reason". After all the LE training I had and courses/matches I have shot, there has yet to be a "levitate your palm while we try to get your gun" stage.

I shoot Glocks because I have always shot them. The XDs I fired were nice and functioned well. The only thing I have against them is just politics. The Springfield XD is the Croatian HS2000 which was around $250-300 brand new before Springfield pimped it as the new super awesome XD. It has been around for at least 10 years.

So in summary, rent both at a range and see which you like better. Then seek formal training with it. Tiger Valley in Waco has a great pistol course.

We all got an opinion. This guy asked for advice not a pi$$ing match. I quess the few folks that have shot themselves with the Glock have done it on purpose and just called it an accidental discharge. I assume that if a cop shoots himself in the leg, it is not on purpose, hense the term (accidental discharge) I don't know if you are calling XD owners idiots or not, but if so, I don't I appreciate that statement much and I don't think the police officers who have, (on purpose shot themselves) would appreciate it either. And by the way, have you read Luke 11:22?
thanks for Pi$$in me off this early in the mornin. Have a nice day.

I got to have me one of those tron frisbees.

Also, I am not looking for an idiot proof gun and I am not trying to convert you or belittle you. I believe my statement was, first, (THE GLOCK IS AN OUTSTANDING WEAPON)followed by, (the XD fits and shoots better for (me) and (I) like the extra level of safety that the Springfield offers), or something to that effect, not, I'm lookin fer a idiot proof gun so I can be uh retard with it and anyone that owns anything other than what I got is a moron.) Again, have a nice day.

wow, you shold not let a debate about a glock or xd have such an effect on your emotions....

Glocks are just better....lets face it....if you want less than perfection get an XD, if you want perfection get the Glock...If you want additional safety, buy a Sig....

I have no emotion, only hatred.
Unless hate is an emotion? I'll have to look that up.

And my apologies, I didn't know it was supposed to be a debate?
I'm a less than perfect guy, who is a less than perfect shot, in a less than safe world, so why would I even consider the perfect Glock over the flawed XD? I am however perfectly content with my choice.

I found myself in the same dilemna for about three months. G19 or XD9. I liked the XD more at first until I put the little 6 dollar mag extender for my pinky on the Glock and It was the most comfortable. They're both great guns. I don't think anyone could substantially debate that one was better than the other. Just hold em both. Holster/pull both. whichever you feel more confident holding, get it. JMHO.

I guess you got me this mornin, hadn't had much coffee when I read that and my mind kinda went spinnin out of control. GLOCKS, God I HATE Glocks. If my pistol doesn't have a thin haze of rust on it, I'm not even comfortable pickin it up yo! Buncha primadonna Glock fiends. I must admit, if I where plannin to do much shootin in the ocean, I'd probably buy one tho. I'll never admit it in public.

This topic reminds of of a guy I saw at a gun show one time. He said "I ain't gonna go to war with no tupperware!" lol!
I don't own one, but most officers I'm friends with love them.
